2009 MTV Video Music Brasil
The 2009 MTV Video Music Brazil was hosted by Marcelo Adnet and took place at the Credicard Hall. It awarded the best in Brazilian music, popular culture and internet culture in the year of 2009. Despite being a Brazilian awards show, the 2009 VMB included live performances by American rapper Ja Rule (in duet with Brazilian pop singer Wanessa) and Scottish rock band Franz Ferdinand, who were also nominated in the Best International Act category (but lost to Britney Spears). The 2009 VMB had over 20 categories, the largest number in the history of the show; therefore, part of the awards were delivered in a special show named "VMB Antes" ("VMB Before"), presented some hours before the main event, including small performances by the 2009 VMB Dream Band winners (the last year where the Dream Band category was maintained; in 2010 the category was extinguished) and winners in other categories. Maria Luiza de Arruda Botelho Pereira de Magalhães (born August 29, 1992), known as Mallu Magalhães (), is a Brazilian singer, songwriter and musician. Mallu first came to prominence through her MySpace page, becoming known for her own songs and those of renowned artists. She found herself gracing the covers of major newspapers such as Folha de S. Paulo, O Estado de S. Paulo and Jornal do Brasil, and was featured in Rolling Stone, Istoé, Época (Brazilian magazine), Época among others. Little Joy is a Brazilian/American rock supergroup formed in 2007 by Los Hermanos singer/guitarist Rodrigo Amarante, The Strokes drummer Fabrizio Moretti, and Binki Shapiro. They released their only album in 2008. O Rappa was a Brazilian reggae/rock band from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Flávio Basso (26 January 1968 – 21 December 2015), better known by his stage name Júpiter Maçã and by its English-language variation Jupiter Apple, was a Brazilian singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and filmmaker. Cachorro Grande (Portuguese for "''Big Dog''") was a Brazilian rock band from Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul. In 2003, the music video for "Lunático" was nominated for Best New Artist at the 2003 MTV Video Music Brazil. In 2007 they won the MTV Video Music Brazil for Best Live Performance. Skank (band)
Skank is a Brazilian band from Belo Horizonte. Having begun in 1991, they sold approximately 5,200,000 copies of their albums as of 2004. Initially intending to mix dancehall with traditional Brazilian styles, later the band changed its sonority to music closer to Britpop and local movement Clube da Esquina. Biography In 1983, Samuel Rosa (guitars, vocals) and Henrique Portugal (keyboards) started to play in a reggae band called "Pouso Alto", along with Dinho Mourão (drums) and his brother Alexandre (bass). In 1991, Pouso Alto arranged for a performance in São Paulo, but due to the Mourão brothers not being in Belo Horizonte, bassist Lelo Zaneti and drummer Haroldo Ferretti were called for the gig.
