Butterfly Stroke
The butterfly (colloquially shortened to fly) is a List of swimming styles, swimming stroke swum on the chest, with both arms moving symmetrically, accompanied by the butterfly kick (also known as the "dolphin kick"). While other styles like the breaststroke, front crawl, or backstroke can be swum adequately by beginners, the butterfly is a more difficult stroke that requires good technique as well as strong muscles. It is the newest swimming (sport), swimming style swum in competition, first swum in 1933 and originating out of the breaststroke. Speed and ergonomics The peak speed of the butterfly is faster than that of the front crawl due to the synchronous pull/push with both arms and legs, which is done quickly. Inbal Schwartz
Inbal Schwarz ( he, ענבל שוורץ, (born October 13, 1984) is an Israeli Paralympic swimmer. Schwarz, suffering from cerebral palsy, began practicing disabled sports at the Israel Sports Center for the Disabled at a young age. By the age of 15 she was competing internationally, finishing in 4th place at the 2002 IPC Swimming World Championships in 100 meters. Schwarz then volunteered to serve at the IDF, trained as a swimming instructor. Today (2008) she is a student in departments of communications and management. Schwarz took part in the 2004 Summer Paralympics, participating in tournaments for 100m backstroke (8th place), 100m freestyle (6th place in heats) and 50m freestyle (7th place in heats). At the 2006 world championship she was 4th in the 50m butterfly tournament, while winning a bronze medal at the 2010 IPC Swimming World Championships in the 50m butterfly - S6. Verena Schott
Verena Schott (born 6 March 1989) is a German paraswimmer and Paralympic medal winner. Biography Schott was born in 1989 in Greifswald. At the age of three, she and her family moved to Bennewitz, Saxony; when she was eight, she took up swimming and joined a swimming club in nearby Wurzen. In 2002, she was severely injured riding her bicycle when a van hit her while overtaking. This left her with incomplete paraplegia and she now uses a wheelchair. She competes in the S7, SM6 and SB5 classifications. (search for "Schott") In 2010 Schott left the club in Leipzig where she had been training when she moved to Berlin to study biology at the Humboldt University of Berlin. There she began training with Matthias Ulm at Berlin's Paralympic Sport Club (PSC Berlin). She had a son, Lean, in June 2011. S7, SB6, SM7 are disability swimming classifications used for categorizing swimmers based on their level of disability. Swimmers in this class have use of their arms and trunk. They have limited leg function or are missing a leg or parts of both legs. This class includes a number of different disabilities including people with amputations and cerebral palsy. The classification is governed by the International Paralympic Committee, and competes at the Paralympic Games. Classification definition This classification is for swimming. 2009 IPC Swimming European Championships
The 2009 IPC Swimming European Championships was an international swimming competition. It was held in Reykjavik, Iceland and ran from 18 to 24 October. Around 650 athletes from 37 different countries attended. Great Britain finished top of the medal tables with 39 golds and 94 medals, both greater than any other country. The 2009 Championships was the first IPC-run event where intellectual disability athletes were allowed to compete since the 2000 Summer Paralympic controversy. In the 2000 Sydney Games cheating by the Spanish basketball team resulted in the banning of all events for athletes with intellectual disabilities. Simone Da Silva (swimmer)
Simone Alves da Silva (born 12 September 1984) is a Brazilian long-distance runner. She won the 2011 South American title over 10,000 metres and broke South American records for the 5000 m and 10,000 m events in 2011, but was banned from competition for a doping offence that year. Born in Morro do Chapéu, she had a rapid ascent in distance running beginning at the age of 24 after joining the BM&F Bovespa athletics club and working with coach Adauto Domingues. She won the Guaratingueta 10K and set a half marathon best of 77:47 minutes at the São Paulo Half Marathon in 2009.
