These are the official results of the 2009 Central American and Caribbean Championships in Athletics which took place on July 3–7, 2009 in Havana, Cuba. Note: Although each country could only have two representatives, Cuba, as the host, could also enter additional athletes. Their performances, however, were not eligible for medals at the competition. 2009 Central American And Caribbean Championships In Athletics
The 2009 Central American and Caribbean Championships (Spanish: ''XXII Campeonato CAC Atletismo'') was the twenty second edition of the tournament and was held between 3 and 7 July in Havana, Cuba. Event summary The host country Cuba dominated the tournament, winning the most gold, silver, and bronze medals, and finishing with a total of 53 medals. Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago were joint second with two gold, five silver and seven bronze medals. Colombia, Puerto Rico and Saint Kitts and Nevis also picked up two gold medals. Championships records were broken in over a quarter of the athletics events, bringing a total of 11 new records. A handful of national records were also broken at the Championships. Three athletes won double golds: Virgil Hodge won the 200 metres and 4×100 metres relay titles, Emmanuel Callender won the 100 metres then helped the Trinidad and Tobago relay team to victory, while Yudileyvis Castillo completed a 5000 and 10,000 metres double. Tyrell Cuffy
Tyrell Cuffy (born 6 September 1988) is a Caymanian sprinter. Born in Trinidad and Tobago, Cuffy moved to the Caymans at a young age, and attended John Gray High School in George Town. He then studied at King College (in Bristol, Tennessee) on an athletic scholarship, winning both the 100 and 200-metre events at the 2008 NAIA National Track Championships. Cuffy had earlier won a silver medal in the 200 metres at the 2007 Pan American Junior Athletics Championships. He has since competed for the Caymans in a number of international events and meets, notably winning two gold medals (in the 100 and 200 metres) at the 2015 Island Games. In his youth, Cuffy also represented the national under-19 cricket team, including at the 2005 ICC Americas Under-19 Championship. Yunier Pérez Romero (born February 16, 1985, in San José de las Lajas) is a Cuban track and field athlete, who specializes in sprinting events. He won gold medals with the Cuban relay team at the 2008 Central American and Caribbean Championships in Cali, Colombia, with an Olympic qualifying time of 3:02.10. Perez competed for the men's 4 × 400 m relay at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, along with his teammates Omar Cisneros, William Collazo, and Yunior Díaz. He ran on the starting leg of the first heat, with an individual-split time of 45.95 seconds. Nickel Ashmeade
Nickel Ashmeade (born 7 April 1990) is a Jamaican sprinter who specialises in the 100 and 200 meters. Nickel Ashmeade ran the third leg for Jamaica's 4 × 100 m team at the 2013 World Championships in Moscow which won the gold medal. Nickel Ashmeade finished 5th at the 2013 World Championships in Athletics in the 100 m in Moscow and 4th in the 200 m. Harold "Tre" Houston (born 23 March 1990) is a Bermudian sprinter who specializes in the 100 and 200 metres. Houston competed in the 200 metres at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing without advancing from the first round. A year later Houston would compete at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Houston, who qualified with a personal best of 20.42, would go on to place sixth in his heat with a time of 20.85. Jason Aliston Rogers (born 31 August 1991 in Sandy Point) is a Saint Kitts and Nevis sprinter who specialises in the 100 metres. Rogers helped win a bronze medal as a part of the 4 × 100 m relay at the 2008 Central American and Caribbean Championships in Cali, Colombia. He also finished sixth in the 100 metres final of the 2010 World Junior Championships in Moncton, Canada. He has competed in three Olympic Games for his country (2012, 2016 and 2020).
