2009 Carolina Panthers Season
The 2009 Carolina Panthers season was the franchise's 15th season in the National Football League. They failed to improve on their franchise-record 12–4 season in 2008 (which was later surpassed by the 2015 team) and also failed to make the playoffs. The 2009 Panthers are only the sixth team in NFL history to have two players rush for 1,000 yards: Jonathan Stewart (1,133) and DeAngelo Williams (1,117). National Football Conference South Division
The National Football Conference – Southern Division or NFC South is one of the four divisions of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the National Football League (NFL). It was created prior to the 2002 NFL season, when the league realigned divisions after expanding to 32 teams. The NFC South currently has four member clubs: the Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, New Orleans Saints, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Sherrod Martin
Jerald Sherrod Martin (born October 12, 1984) is a former American football safety. He was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft. He played college football at Troy. Martin has also played for the Jacksonville Jaguars and Chicago Bears. Early years Martin was born in 1984 in Griffin, Georgia as one of three children to parents Diane and John. He has a brother named Cory and a sister named Chrystal. At age 9, Martin began playing football and continued through middle and high school. While at Griffin High, Martin played three seasons as a free safety and wide receiver under head coach Steve Devoursney. Griffin was elected team captain in his senior high school year. George "Duke" Robinson (born October 10, 1986) is a former American football guard. Robinson played college football for the University of Oklahoma, and was recognized as an All-American twice. He was selected by the Carolina Panthers in the fifth round of the 2009 NFL Draft. Early years Robinson was born in Atlanta, Georgia. He played high school football at Washington High School in Atlanta. The 2008 Syracuse Orange football team represented Syracuse University during the 2008 NCAA Division I FBS football season. A fullback (FB) is a position in the offensive backfield in gridiron football, and is one of the two running back positions along with the halfback. Placido Anthony Fiammetta (born August 22, 1986) is a former American football fullback in the National Football League (NFL) for the Carolina Panthers, Dallas Cowboys, New England Patriots and Chicago Bears. He was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the fourth round of the 2009 NFL Draft (128th overall). He played college football at Syracuse University. Michael Darryl Goodson Jr. (born May 23, 1987) is a former American football running back. He played college football at Texas A&M. Goodson was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the fourth round of the 2009 NFL Draft. He also played for the Oakland Raiders and the New York Jets. Early years Goodson attended Westfield High School in Houston previously before he attended Klein Collins High School in Spring, Texas, where he played football and ran track. The 2008 Georgia Bulldogs football team competed in American football on behalf of the University of Georgia in 2008. The Bulldogs competed in the East Division of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). This was the Georgia Bulldogs' eighth season under the guidance of head coach Mark Richt. A defensive tackle (DT) is a position in American football that will typically line up on the line of scrimmage, opposite one of the offensive guards, however he may also line up opposite one of the tackles. Defensive tackles are typically the largest and strongest of the defensive players. Depending on a team's individual defensive scheme, a defensive tackle may be called upon to fill several different roles. These roles may include merely holding the point of attack by refusing to be moved, or penetrating a certain gap between offensive linemen to break up a play in the opponent's backfield.
