2009 Baylor Bears Football Team
The 2009 Baylor Bears football team represented Baylor University in the 2009 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The team was coached by Art Briles. The Bears played their home games at Floyd Casey Stadium in Waco, Texas. Baylor finished the season with a record of 4–8 and 1–7 in Big 12 play. Before the season Program history The Baylor Bears football program finished 2008 with a 4–8 record and a 521–523–43 (0.499) all-time record, marking the first time in decades that Baylor's overall record was losing. The program has not won its conference or attended a bowl game since 1994, when it both won the Southwest Conference and played in the 1994 Alamo Bowl; it has not had a winning season record since 1995. Art Briles
Arthur Ray Briles (born December 3, 1955) is an American football coach who is currently the head coach for the Guelfi Firenze in the Italian Football League. Briles was the head coach of the Houston Cougars from 2002 to 2007 and the Baylor Bears from 2008 to 2015. His college coaching career ended with his dismissal from the team in 2015 as a result of the Baylor University sexual assault scandal. He is the author of ''Beating Goliath: My Story of Football and Faith'' (2014). He is the subject of a biography written by Nick Eatman entitled ''Looking Up: My Journey to Hell'' (2013). Playing career A native of Rule, Texas, Briles attended Rule High School, where he was coached by his father. 1995 Hall Of Fame Bowl
The 1995 Hall of Fame Bowl featured the 25th-ranked Duke Blue Devils and the unranked Wisconsin Badgers. Wisconsin scored first on a 19-yard interception returned from a touchdown by Jeff Messenger, as Wisconsin opened a 7–0 lead. Wisconsin's John Hall kicked two field goals of 48 and 43 yards as Wisconsin increased its lead to 13–0 at the end of the 1st quarter. In the second quarter, Duke's Robert Baldwin scored on a 7-yard touchdown run to make it 13–7. Duke added a 30-yard field goal before halftime to pull within 13–10. Linebacker
Linebacker (LB) is a playing position in gridiron football. Linebackers are members of the defensive team, and line up three to five yards behind the line of scrimmage and the defensive linemen. Defensive Tackle
A defensive tackle (DT) is a position in American football that will typically line up on the line of scrimmage, opposite one of the offensive guards, however he may also line up opposite one of the tackles. Defensive tackles are typically the largest and strongest of the defensive players. Depending on a team's individual defensive scheme, a defensive tackle may be called upon to fill several different roles. These roles may include merely holding the point of attack by refusing to be moved, or penetrating a certain gap between offensive linemen to break up a play in the opponent's backfield.
