2008–09 UCI Track Cycling World Cup Classics – Round 5 – Women's Points Race
The fifth round of the women's points race of the 2008–2009 UCI Track Cycling World Cup Classics took place in Copenhagen, Denmark on 14 February 2009. 38 athletes participated in the contest. Ellen van Dijk won, after winning the 2008–2009 UCI Track Cycling World Cup Classics – Round 5 – Women's individual pursuit, individual pursuit World Cup race the day before, the final points race. Katie Colclough finished second and Shelley Olds third. Competition format A points race is a race in which all riders start together and the object is to earn points during sprints or to lap the bunch. The tournament consisted of two qualifying heats of 10 km (40 laps). The top twelve cyclist of each heat advanced to the 20 km final (80 laps). Alexandra Greenfield
Alexandra Greenfield (born 1990) is a Welsh former road and track cyclist from Barry. She began competing at a young age with the Maindy Flyers children's cycle club before joining Cardiff Ajax CC. Greenfield holds the record for the 5 km Tandem Standing Start event on the track along with Katie Curtis, with a time of 7 minutes 4.424 seconds. The record was set in Newport Velodrome on 10 June 2004. She transitioned from 's former technical director and assistant directeur sportif, to be Cycling New Zealand's women's endurance assistant coach by mid-2018. She became the British junior scratch race champion in 2007 as well as the junior European points race champion. In 2008, Greenfield retained her European points race title and added another title as a member of the junior team pursuit squad. Tara Whitten
Tara Alice Whitten (born 13 July 1980) is a Canadian former racing cyclist. Career A former cross-country skier from Edmonton, Alberta, Whitten began track racing seriously in 2008 having dabbled in it since 2005. The same year she won the points race and individual pursuit at the Canadian National Track Championships, and also took the bronze medal in the scratch race and 500 meter time trial events. Whitten began the 2008–2009 track cycling season strongly, winning two silver medals at first round of the Track World Cup in Manchester, United Kingdom, in October. She went on to take two bronze medals in the third round in Cali, Colombia, and a further two silver medals in the fifth and final round in Copenhagen, Denmark, in February 2009. Kelly Druyts (born 21 November 1989) is a Belgian racing cyclist, who currently rides for UCI Women's Continental Team . She finished in second place in the Belgian National Road Race Championships in 2010. Rebecca Quinn (born May 24, 1971) is an American professional racing cyclist from Quakertown, Pennsylvania. Quinn finished third in the 2007 UCI Track Cycling World Championships - Women's scratch but was relegated as she had made contact with another rider during the sprint finish. Quinn took USA Cycling to arbitration in a Colorado Springs courtroom on July 9, 2008, after she was not selected as part of the squad for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. She claimed that Sarah Hammer was selected in her place due to favoritism as Hammer is engaged to be married to the team coach, Andy Sparks. Although the court did not find in her favor, they did order USA Cycling to pay the costs as the actions of their coaches had caused legitimate doubt over the fairness of any rider being selected.
