2008–09 Portsmouth F.C. Season
During the 2008–09 football season Portsmouth played their sixth consecutive season in the highest tier of English football, the Premier League. Thanks to the exploits of the previous season, Portsmouth achieved European football for the first time in their footballing history, thanks to an FA Cup win over Cardiff City; they competed in the UEFA Cup. They also participated in the Charity Shield, against Manchester United on 10 August 2008, at Wembley Stadium, eventually losing on penalties. This was the first time since 1996 that a team outside of the "Big Four" had competed in the competition. Portsmouth ( ) is a port and city in the ceremonial county of Hampshire in southern England. The Football Association Challenge Cup, more commonly known as the FA Cup, is an annual knockout football competition in men's domestic English football. First played during the 1871–72 season, it is the oldest national football competition in the world. It is organised by and named after The Football Association (The FA). Since 2015, it has been known as The Emirates FA Cup after its headline sponsor. A concurrent women's tournament is also held, the Women's FA Cup. The competition is open to all eligible clubs down to Level 9 of the English football league system with Level 10 clubs acting as stand-ins in the event of non-entries from above. Glen Little
Glen Matthew Little (born 15 October 1975) is an English footballer. Born in Wimbledon, London, he also previously played for Burnley, Derry City, Glentoran, Crystal Palace, Sheffield United, Wrexham and Aldershot Town. Eric Gauthier Mahoto (born 21 February 1992) is a French footballer who plays for AS Marsouins as a central midfielder. Early life Mahoto was born in the 18th arrondissement of Paris, to a Zairean mother born in Congo-Léopoldville. Djimi Traoré (born 1 March 1980) is a former professional footballer and was an assistant coach for Seattle Sounders FC. He played as a left back or centre back. James Hurst (born 31 January 1992) is an English footballer who plays for side Tamworth, where he plays as a defender. His professional career saw him play club football in the Premier League for West Bromwich Albion, in the Football League for Blackpool, Shrewsbury Town, Chesterfield, Birmingham City, Crawley Town and Northampton Town, and in the Icelandic Úrvalsdeild for ÍBV and Valur.
