The 2008–09 season was Peterborough United F.C., Peterborough United's 49th year in the English Football League, Football League and their first season in EFL League One, League One since the 2004–05 Peterborough United F.C. season, 2004–05 season, having been promoted from EFL League Two, League Two in 2007–08 Peterborough United F.C. season, the previous season. Peterborough had a successful league campaign, finishing second, and in doing so, securing promotion to the EFL Championship, Championship. Along with League One, the club also participated in the FA Cup, EFL Cup, League Cup and EFL Trophy, Football League Trophy, in which they were knocked out in the third, first and second rounds respectively. Peterborough United F
Peterborough () is a cathedral city in Cambridgeshire, east of England. It is the largest part of the City of Peterborough unitary authority district (which covers a larger area than Peterborough itself). It was part of Northamptonshire until 1974, when county boundary change meant the city became part of Cambridgeshire instead. The city is north of London, on the River Nene which flows into the North Sea to the north-east. In 2020 the built-up area subdivision had an estimated population of 179,349. In 2021 the Unitary Authority area had a population of 215,671. The local topography is flat, and in some places, the land lies below sea level, for example in parts of the Fens to the east and to the south of Peterborough. EFL Championship
The English Football League Championship (often referred to as the Championship for short or the Sky Bet Championship for sponsorship purposes) is the highest division of the English Football League (EFL) and second-highest overall in the English football league system, after the Premier League. The league is contested by 24 clubs. Aaron McLean
Aaron McLean (born 25 May 1983) is an English retired professional footballer who played as a striker. At international level he gained five caps for the England C team during his time in the non-league. McLean began his senior career with Leyton Orient in 1999, having graduated from the club's youth ranks. Never really breaking into the first team, he made 40 league appearances in a four-year spell, which also included a brief loan to Grays Athletic. He switched to Aldershot Town in 2003, and, after making 68 league appearances, moved again to Grays Athletic in 2005. Lee Frecklington
Lee Craig Frecklington (born 8 September 1985) is a former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Frecklington's came through the youth academy at home town club Lincoln City, he spent time on loan with Lincoln United and Stamford before going on to make 127 league appearances, scoring 21 goals. He was part of the Imps team that missed out on promotion to League One during the 2005–06 season. In 2009 he joined Peterborough United, later moving to Rotherham United in 2013 where he scored 26 times in 157 appearances, twice being promoted to the EFL Championship. He returned to Lincoln in 2017 and won the EFL Trophy and the 2019 League Two title. He retired in October 2021 after a brief spell with Non-League side Frickley Athletic. Scott Rendell
Scott David Rendell (born 21 October 1986) is an English footballer who plays as a striker for AFC Totton. Career Early career Rendell was born in Ashford, Surrey, but lived in Basingstoke, Hampshire. He started his career with Staines Albion, where he played until the age of 16. After this, Rendell was signed onto the books of Aldershot Town before joining nearby Reading. Unable to break into the Reading first-team, he was loaned back to Aldershot, and had work experience loans at Forest Green Rovers and Hayes. While at Forest Green, Rendell scored the club's first ever goal as a professional side on the opening day of the 2005–06 season against Cambridge United, who he would later go on to sign for. Charlie Lee (born 5 January 1987) is an English professional football coach and former player, who played as a defender or midfielder. He is an academy coach at EFL League Two club Leyton Orient. Playing career Tottenham Hotspur Born in Whitechapel, London, Lee was a youth player with Wormley Rovers before starting his career in the Tottenham Hotspur youth system in 2003. Russell Kenneth Alexander Martin (born 4 January 1986) is a professional football manager and former player. He is the head coach of Championship club Swansea City. A former defender, Martin began his playing career at Brighton & Hove Albion's youth academy. He established himself at Wycombe Wanderers in 2004, before moving to Peterborough United in 2008.
