2008 European Men's And Women's Team Badminton Championships
The 2008 European Men's and Women's Team Badminton Championships was held in Almere, the Netherlands, from February 12 to February 17, 2008, and was organised by the Badminton Europe and the Nederlandse Badminton Bond. The tournament was double as 2008 Thomas Cup and Uber Cup qualification tournament, where the top three teams for each competitions qualified automatically. Topsportcentrum Almere
The Topsportcentrum is an indoor sports arena, located in Almere, Netherlands. Designed by architectural studio ZJA, it opened on the 7th of October in 2007. Its operator is the city of Almere and its main hall has a capacity of 3,000 people. The sports it is used most for are volleyball and basketball, with VC Allvo and Almere Pioneers use the venue as their home arena. The hall was finished in 2007 and costed €14 million. From 2007 until 2013, the hall was used for the final of the NBB Cup, the main cup competition for men's basketball teams. On 24 February 2020, Basketball Nederland announced the national basketball team will play its international home games in Almere until 2023. Robert Blair (badminton)
Robert Blair (born 7 August 1981) is a Scottish badminton player. Blair was born in Scotland, but after attending Loughborough University in Leicestershire, he competed for England from 2001 until 2010, except at the Olympic Games, where Scotland and England are both parts of the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team. His main motivation for changing nation was the prospect of medals at the Commonwealth Games. On 16 December 2010 Badminton England and Badminton Scotland announced that Blair would be returning to Scotland. The reason(s) for Blair's return to Scotland remain unclear, but reports suggest a falling-out with members of the Badminton England setup was central to the decision. Helle Nielsen (born 20 July 1981) is a Danish badminton player. In 1999, she won a silver and two bronzes at the European Junior Badminton Championships in Glasgow, Scotland in the girls doubles, mixed doubles and mixed team respectively. Judith Meulendijks
Judith Meulendijks (born 26 September 1978, Helmond) is a former badminton player from the Netherlands. Career Meulendijks started playing badminton at the BC Phoenix in her hometown and then she went to BC Geldrop. In her junior career, she won 1994 Dutch junior championships in the girls' doubles partnered with Antoinette Achterberg, and in 1995 in the mixed doubles with Dicky Palyama. In 1996, she elected to join the national team, and in the same year, she won the national women's singles title. In 2007, she won the gold medal at the European Junior Championships in the girls' singles event, and also became the first of world-class junior players to make a mark on the International Badminton Federation tournament circuit when she took the women's singles title at the Dutch Open. Tine Baun (née Rasmussen; born 21 July 1979) is a Danish former badminton player. Most notably, she won the All England Open Badminton Championships women's singles title three times in 2008, 2010, and 2013 – the last of these being her final tournament before retirement. Joachim Persson (born 23 May 1983) is a badminton player from Denmark. Career Persson was born in Denmark but his family moved to Germany in his early years. He began to playing badminton in Trittau, Germany together with his parents. As German player, he helped the German team to win the mixed team title at the 2001 European Junior Championships, also won a silver medal in the singles event. David Lindley (born 23 April 1979) is an English badminton player and coach. The right-handler, Lindley started playing badminton at aged six, and in the junior event, he becoming boys' doubles U-19 national champion in 1997 and 1998. Nathan James Robertson (born 30 May 1977) from Cotgrave in Nottinghamshire is a retired English badminton player who has achieved international success in both the men's events and the mixed doubles event. He was educated at Dayncourt School Specialist Sports College. Joachim Fischer Nielsen (born 23 November 1978) is a Danish retired badminton player. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, he won the bronze medal in the mixed doubles with teammate Christinna Pedersen.
