2008 Edmonton Eskimos Season
The Edmonton Eskimos season was the 51st season for the team in the Canadian Football League and their 60th overall. The Eskimos finished 4th in the West Division, but made the playoffs because of the "crossover" rule. Edmonton became the first West team to win the East Semi-Final. The Eskimos attempted to win their 14th Grey Cup championship, but they lost the East Final to the Montreal Alouettes. Canadian Football League West Division
The West Division is one of the two regional divisions of the Canadian Football League (CFL), its counterpart being the East Division (CFL), East Division. Although the CFL was not founded until 1958, the West Division and its clubs are descended from earlier leagues. The five teams in the West Division are the BC Lions, Calgary Stampeders, Edmonton Elks, Saskatchewan Roughriders, and Winnipeg Blue Bombers. There were also two now-defunct teams from the Canadian Football League in the United States, mid 1990s United States expansion of the CFL who played in the West Division. Hamilton Tiger-Cats
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats are a professional Canadian football team based in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. They are currently members of the East Division of the Canadian Football League (CFL). The Tiger-Cats play their home games at Tim Hortons Field. In 1950, the Tigers merged with cross-town upstart Hamilton Wildcats and adopted the name "Tiger-Cats". Christopher J. Thompson (born May 19, 1982 in New Orleans, Louisiana) is a former NFL and CFL cornerback. He is currently cornerbacks coach for the Nicholls Colonels. Playing career College career Thompson played collegiately at Nicholls State University. NFL career Thompson began his professional playing career in the National Football League. He was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars with the 18th pick of the fifth round of the 2004 NFL Draft and spent the 2004 NFL season with the Jaguars. Brock Ralph
Brock Ralph (born 7 July 1980) is a former professional Canadian football slotback and wide receiver. Saskatchewan Roughriders
The Saskatchewan Roughriders are a professional Canadian football team based in Regina, Saskatchewan. The Roughriders compete in the Canadian Football League (CFL) as a member club of the league's West Division. The Roughriders were founded in 1910 as the Regina Rugby Club. Although Saskatchewan was not the first team to play football in Western Canada, the club has maintained an unbroken organizational continuity since their founding. Jonathan St-Pierre
Jonathan St-Pierre (born September 15, 1983) is a former professional Canadian football offensive lineman. He was drafted by the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the second round of the 2008 CFL Draft. St-Pierre played college football for the Illinois State Redbirds. He was traded to the Toronto Argonauts on January 6, 2010, for non-import wide receiver Obed Cétoute. On September 5, 2012, St-Pierre was released by the Toronto Argonauts. On September 25 he signed onto the practice roster of the Calgary Stampeders. Steven Jyles (born September 25, 1982) is a former professional Canadian football quarterback. He was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League in 2006. He played college football for Louisiana–Monroe. Fernand Kashama
Fernand Kashama (born February 26, 1985) is a former Canadian football defensive lineman who played in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He was drafted by the Calgary Stampeders in the second round of the 2008 CFL Draft. He played college football for the Western Michigan Broncos. He also played for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Early years Kashama was born on February 26, 1985, in Kinshasa, Congo and grew up in Brampton, Ontario. During his senior season in high school, he played both wide receiver and free safety. 2008 CFL Draft
The 2008 CFL Draft took place on Wednesday, April 30, 2008, live at 12:00 PM ET on TSN.ca. A total of 48 players were chosen from among 752 eligible players from Canadian Universities across the country, as well as Canadian players playing in the NCAA. Of the 48 draft selections, 33 players were drafted from Canadian Interuniversity Sport institutions. The first two rounds were broadcast on TSN.ca with host Rod Black. CFL Commissioner Mark Cohon was in the studio to announce each selection. Fred Perry (Canadian Football)
Fred Perry (born January 5, 1975) was a Canadian football defensive end. Perry most recently played for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers where his success was limited due to injury. College career Perry attended Southern Arkansas University and played two seasons of football. As a senior, he helped in leading his team to the 1997 Gulf South Conference Championship and was named an NCAA Division II All-American. He previously attended Northeastern Oklahoma College. Professional career The bulk of Perry's playing career has been in the CFL, though he spent the entire 2002 season on the injured reserve of the NFL's Atlanta Falcons after being injured in an exhibition game.
