2008 Democratic Party (HK) Leadership Election
The Democratic Party leadership election was held on 14 December 2008 for the 30-member 8th Central Committee of the Democratic Party in Hong Kong, including chairman and two vice-chairman posts. Incumbent Chairman Albert Ho re-elected uncontestedly, while Sin Chung-kai and Emily Lau defeated Andrew Cheng as the two Vice-Chairmen. Eligibility The Central Committee was elected by the party congress. All public office holders, including the members of the Legislative Council and District Councils, are eligible to vote in the party congress. Every 30 members can also elect a delegate who holds one vote in the congress. Overview The Democratic Party formally merged with the Frontier in November 2008. The Convenor of the Frontier, Emily Lau Wai-hing contested for the Vice-Chair post with incumbent Vice-Chairman Sin Chung-kai as Albert Ho's cabinet, while Albert Ho sought for re-election for his second term. Law Chi-kwong
Dr Law Chi-kwong, GBS, JP (; born 1 November 1953) is a Hong Kong politician who served as Secretary for Labour and Welfare between 2017 and 2022. He is an associate professor in social work at the University of Hong Kong. He was a founding member of the Democratic Party of Hong Kong and its honorary secretary and spokesperson for women's issues, until he left the party to serve in the government. He served in the Legislative Council, in the Social Welfare functional constituency, between 1995 and 2004 except during the Provisional Legislative Council, serving on the Social Welfare Advisory Committee as well as many governmental and non-governmental bodies. Wu Chi-wai, MH (, born 18 October 1962) is a Hong Kong politician. He is the former chairman of the Democratic Party from 2016 to 2020 and a former member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong for Kowloon East constituency since 2012. He has also been a member of Wong Tai Sin District Council since 1999 and member of the Urban Council from 1995 to 1999. James To Kun-sun (; ; born 11 March 1963) is a Hong Kong lawyer and Democratic Party (Hong Kong), Democratic Party politician. From 1991 to 2020, To was a member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong, representing the District Council (Second) constituency. Wilson Li Wing-shing (; born 1975) is a Hong Kong politician. He is formerly the secretary and currently the vice-chairman of the Democratic Party. He is also member of the Sha Tin District Council for Wu Kai Sha. Li was born in 1975. He started working at Legislative Councillor Emily Lau's office in 2005. He joined the Democratic Party when The Frontier was merged into the Democratic Party in 2008. Yeung Sum
Yeung Sum (; born 22 November 1947 in Guangzhou) is a Hong Kong politician and academic. He served several terms as a Legislative Councillor and was the second chairman of the Democratic Party (DP), a pro-democracy political party in Hong Kong. Tik Chi-yuen () is a member of the Hong Kong Legislative Council and of North District Council. He is a registered social worker and chairman of the small centrist Third Side party, which he co-founded in 2015, after quitting the Democratic Party, of which he was also a co-founder.
