2007–08 UNLV Runnin' Rebels Basketball Team
The 2007–08 UNLV Runnin' Rebels basketball team represented the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. The team was coached by Lon Kruger, returning for his fourth year with the Runnin' Rebels. They played their home games at the Thomas & Mack Center on UNLV's main campus in Paradise, Nevada and were a member of the Mountain West Conference. The Runnin' Rebels finished the season 27–8, 12–4 in MWC play. They won the 2008 Mountain West Conference men's basketball tournament to receive an automatic bid to the 2008 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament, earning an 8 seed in the Midwest Region. The Runnin' Rebels defeated 9 seed Kent State in the opening round before losing to 1 seed and eventual National champion Kansas in the second round. Lon Kruger
Lonnie Duane Kruger (born August 19, 1952) is a retired American college and professional basketball coach (sport), coach who was most recently the men's basketball head coach of the University of Oklahoma. Kruger played college basketball for Kansas State University. He has served as the head coach of the University of Texas–Pan American, Kansas State, the University of Florida, the University of Illinois, and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, as well as the Atlanta Hawks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Kruger was one of only three coaches ever (the others being Rick Pitino and Tubby Smith) to lead five programs to the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament, NCAA tournament. The 2007–08 San Diego Toreros men's basketball team represented the University of San Diego during the 2007–08 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Toreros were led by first-year head coach Bill Grier. They played their home games at Jenny Craig Pavilion in San Diego, California as members of the West Coast Conference. The Toreros finished the season 22–14, 11–3 in WCC play to finish in 3rd place. They won the WCC tournament to receive an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament as No. 13 seed in the West region. Moby Arena is an 8,745-seat basketball arena on the campus of Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado. The arena, officially known as the Colorado State Auditorium-Gymnasium, was opened on January 24, 1966, with a victory over New Mexico State. The arena was built to replace South College Gymnasium, which was built in 1926 and seated 1,500 people. The 2007–08 Minnesota Golden Gophers men's basketball team represented the University of Minnesota in the college basketball season of 2007–2008. The team's head coach, Tubby Smith began his first year at Minnesota after leaving Kentucky in March 2007. The Golden Gophers played their home games at Williams Arena in Minneapolis, Minnesota and are members of the Big Ten Conference.
