2007–08 Atlético Madrid Season
Atlético de Madrid finally reached the UEFA Champions League, following its most successful season since its 1995–96 league title. In the wake of captain Fernando Torres departing for Liverpool, Atlético responded with the signings of Diego Forlán, Thiago Motta, Simão and José Antonio Reyes, aimed at propelling the club to the top. A few early defeats caused concern, but the partnership between youngster Sergio Agüero and Forlán gelled so well that the club managed 66 goals and 64 points. Thanks to the double victory against Sevilla, Atlético managed to take the final spot for the Champions League, surprisingly finishing only three points behind Barcelona in third. Thiago Motta
Thiago Motta (; ; born 28 August 1982) is a professional football manager and former player. He is currently the head coach of club Bologna. A midfielder, Motta spent his early career at Barcelona, where he was injury-prone. He played two and a half seasons with Inter Milan before joining Paris Saint-Germain in January 2012, winning 27 major titles all clubs combined. Motta also had brief spells with Atlético Madrid in Spain, and Genoa in Italy. Born in Brazil, Motta also holds Italian citizenship. After making two appearances for his country of birth in 2003, he represented the latter national team a total of 30 times since making his debut in 2011, scoring once. Luis Amaranto Perea Mosquera (born 30 January 1979) is a Colombian former footballer, and a current manager. Gifted with incredible stamina and pace, the central defender could also be adapted at right back. He spent most of his senior career with Atlético Madrid, appearing in 314 competitive matches over eight La Liga seasons. In 2012, he signed with Cruz Azul. Zé Castro
José Eduardo Rosa Vale de Castro (born 13 January 1983), commonly known as Zé Castro, is a Portuguese former footballer who played as a central defender. He started and finished his professional career with Académica, but spent 11 years in Spain representing Atlético Madrid, Deportivo and Rayo Vallecano. Appearing for all the clubs in La Liga, he amassed totals of 168 matches and five goals. Castro earned 26 caps for Portugal at youth level, including 15 for the under-21 team. Fabiano Eller dos Santos, known as Fabiano Eller (born 19 November 1977 in Linhares), is a Brazilian former footballer who last played as a central defender for Náutico. In the 2006 season, he played for Internacional while on loan from Turkish giants Trabzonspor. Mariano Pernía
Mariano Andrés Pernía Molina (born 4 May 1977) is a Spanish retired footballer who played as a left back. After starting professionally with Independiente, he moved to Spain in the early 2000s, going on to represent three teams in the country – most notably Getafe and Atlético Madrid, scoring ten La Liga goals in one sole season with the former – amassing Spanish top flight totals of 171 matches and 16 goals over seven seasons. Georgios "Giourkas" Seitaridis ( ; born 4 June 1981) is a Greek former professional footballer who played as a right-back and occasionally as a centre-back. He has last played in 2013 for Greek Superleague side Panathinaikos, having played previously at PAS Giannina, Porto, Dynamo Moscow and Atlético Madrid. Ismael Gómez Falcón (born 24 April 1984) is a Spanish former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Christian Abbiati (born 8 July 1977) is an Italian former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Abbiati, who had been with AC Milan since 1998, started his career with Monza, and later played more than 300 official matches for Milan. He also spent loan spells at Borgosesia Calcio, Juventus, Torino and Atlético Madrid.
