2007 Ontario Provincial By-elections
By-elections were held on February 8, 2007, in Ontario, Canada, to fill three vacancies in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. By-elections were held in three electoral districts (ridings): Burlington, Markham and York South–Weston. The by-elections resulted in York South-Weston being taken by the NDP from the Liberals, Burlington remaining Progressive Conservative and Markham being retained by the Liberals. Since this was a by-election of the 38th Legislative Assembly of Ontario, the ridings used the same boundaries as the 2003 general election. The subsequent October 10, 2007 general election were run on new electoral district boundaries, mostly following the new federal boundaries that were in place for the 2004 and 2006 federal elections. Cam Jackson
Cameron "Cam" Jackson (born February 27, 1951) is a Canadian politician. A Progressive Conservative, he was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario in 1985, and held the office of Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) for Burlington until his resignation on September 28, 2006 to run for mayor of Burlington in the 2006 election. He served as mayor from 2006 to 2010 when he was defeated by Rick Goldring. Background Jackson was born in Hamilton, Ontario. His mother was Ukrainian Canadian. He was educated at McMaster University, although he left before graduating to take a job with the Ontario Conservative Party. Before entering politics, he was the Chief Executive Officer of the Metropolitan Hamilton Real Estate Board, and also worked for the Halton Housing Authority from 1975 to 1980. By-elections occur whenever there is a vacancy in the Legislative Assembly, although an imminent general election may allow the vacancy to remain until the dissolution of parliament. Causes A by-election occurs whenever there is a vacancy in the Ontario legislature. Joseph Cordiano (born October 30, 1957) is a former politician in Ontario, Canada.
