2007 O'Byrne Cup
The 2007 O'Byrne Cup was a Gaelic football competition played by the teams of Leinster GAA. The competition differs from the Leinster Senior Football Championship as it also features further education colleges. O'Byrne Cup First round The first round saw the withdrawal of Kilkenny who were then replaced by Dundalk IT. Dundalk IT later dropped out of the competition which means that Wexford go on to play in the quarter-final on January 4, 2007. The first match of the O'Byrne Cup was played between Carlow and Wicklow. It was a much anticipated game as it was the debut of the new Wicklow senior football manager Mick O'Dwyer. Wexford, Wicklow, DIT, Offaly, Laois, Louth, Westmeath and Dublin went on to play in the quarter-finals of the O'Byrne Cup. O'Byrne Cup
The Bord na Móna O'Byrne Cup is a Gaelic football competition organised by the Leinster GAA and first staged in 1954. The competition is named after Matt Byrne, a former Wicklow GAA club and county officer. By virtue of a quirk in translation, the Corn Uí Bhroin became known as the O'Byrne cup even though Matt had never used an 'O' in his surname. Byrne was born on February 14, 1870, was a native of Baltinglass and taught at the local national school on Chapel Hill. Deeply involved in GAA activities at any levels throughout his life, he was regarded as a good footballer in his youth as well as an excellent handballer. He was the first secretary of the Maurice Davins' club in Baltinglass and served as a member of the Wicklow County Board for over 50 years, mostly as county registrar. Wicklow GAA
The Wicklow County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael, Coiste Chontae Cill Mhantáin) or Wicklow GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Wicklow. The county board is also responsible for the Wicklow county teams. The county football team plays in the Leinster Senior Football Championship. Wicklow has had very little success at senior level, being the only football team in the province and one of two in Ireland to have never won a senior title in either code, the other being Fermanagh. The county hurling team competes in the Christy Ring Cup, the third tier of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship. Aughrim County Ground, known for sponsorship reasons as Joule Park Aughrim, is a Gaelic Athletic Association, GAA stadium in Aughrim, County Wicklow, Aughrim, County Wicklow, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. Aughrim County Ground is the name of the home of Gaelic Games for County Wicklow (Gaelic football, Hurling, Camogie, Ladies Football) team. The ground has a capacity of about 7,000. The name "O'Byrne Park" was occasionally used in the past, but this has never been the official name: this mistake that came about because of the Irish name for the local village of Aughrim, "Aughrim of the O'Byrnes" (''Eachdhruim Uí Bhroin''). O'Connor Park
O'Connor Park ( ga, Páirc Uí Chonchúir) is a GAA stadium in Tullamore, County Offaly, Ireland. It is one of the principal grounds of the Offaly GAA Gaelic football and hurling teams. It is known for sponsorship reasons as Bord na Móna O’Connor Park. The ground was opened in 1934, to replace Ballyduff Park, and currently has a capacity of 18,000. The ground currently consists of a covered stand on one side of the pitch, with terracing on the other three. A stand was built in 1991, but replaced by the current structure in 2006. The stand (currently known as the 'New Stand' pending decision on a new name) was completed in 2006. It seats 7,000 people and also includes a press box and a special section for wheelchair users. DCU GAA
Dublin City University Gaelic Athletic Association Club ( ga, Cumann Luth Chleas Gael Ollscoil Chathair Bhaile Átha Cliath) is the GAA club at Dublin City University. The club fields teams in men's Gaelic football, hurling, ladies' Gaelic football and camogie. It also organises Gaelic handball. The club mainly competes in intervarsity competitions such as the Sigerson Cup, the Fitzgibbon Cup, the O'Connor Cup and the Ashbourne Cup. The Athlone Institute of Technology (AIT; ga, Institiúid Teicneolaíochta Bhaile Átha Luain) was an institute of technology, located in Athlone, Ireland. Established in 1970, the institute's campus was located on University Road. A consortium between itself and the Limerick Institute of Technology was announced with the intention of forming a technological university. Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT; ga, Institiúid Teicneolaíochta Dhún Dealgan) is an institute of technology, located in Dundalk, Ireland. Mick O'Dwyer
Michael O'Dwyer (born 9 June 1936) is an Irish retired Gaelic football manager and former player. He most famously managed the senior Kerry county team between 1974 and 1989, during which time he became the county's longest-serving manager and most successful in terms of major titles won. O'Dwyer is regarded as the greatest manager in the history of the game. He is one of only three men to manage five different counties (he was preceded in reaching this total by Mickey Moran in 2008 and emulated by John Maughan in 2018). Martin Breheny has described him as "the ultimate symbol of the outside manager".
