2007 Japan Super Series
The 2007 Japan Open Super Series (officially known as the Yonex Open Japan Super Series 2007 for sponsorship reasons) was a badminton tournament which took place at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium in Tokyo, Japan, from 11 to 16 September 2007 and had a total purse of $200,000. Tournament The 2007 Japan Open Super Series was the eighth tournament of the 2007 BWF Super Series and also part of the Japan Open championships, which had been held since 1977. This tournament was organized by the Nippon Badminton Association and sanctioned by the BWF. Venue This international tournament was held at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium in Tokyo, Japan. Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium
is a sporting complex in Sendagaya, Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan. Built in 1954 for the World Wrestling Championship, it was also used as the venue for gymnastics at the 1964 Summer Olympics, and hosted the table tennis competition at the 2020 Summer Olympics. The gymnasium was rebuilt to a futuristic design created by Pritzker Prize winner Fumihiko Maki from 1986 to 1990. The gymnasium is a one-minute walk from Sendagaya Station on the Chūō-Sōbu Line and Kokuritsu Kyogijo Station on the Toei Oedo Line. Lin Dan
Lin Dan (born 14 October 1983) is a Chinese former professional badminton player. He is a two-time Olympic champion, five-time World champion, as well as a six-time All England champion. Widely regarded as the greatest badminton player of all time, by the age of 28 Lin had completed the "Super Grand Slam", having won what some consider to be the nine major titles in the badminton world: Olympic Games, World Championships, World Cup, Thomas Cup, Sudirman Cup, Super Series Masters Finals, All England Open, Asian Games, and Asian Championships, becoming the first and only player to achieve this feat. Kenichi Tago
is a former badminton player from Japan. He is the son of former badminton player Yoshiko Yonekura. In 2010, he reached the final of the All England Open Badminton Championships. En route to the final he beat three seeded players including Nguyen Tien Minh, Chen Jin and Bao Chunlai. In the final, Tago lost to the first seed and reigning World No. 1 Lee Chong Wei from Malaysia with a score of 21–19 and 21–19, following an incorrect line call in Lee Chong Wei's favour at matchpoint. Wong Choong Hann
Wong Choong Hann (; born 17 February 1977) is a former badminton player from Malaysia. He is the first Malaysian to win a medal in the men's singles event at the BWF World Championships. Currently he is the coaching director for the Malaysia national badminton team. Career Wong Choong Hann's career began with the 1996 Malaysia Open. The first tournament he won was the 1997 Dutch Open. He represented Malaysia in 2002, where Malaysia emerged runners-up to Indonesia in the Thomas Cup championships. In 2003, Wong reached the World Championships finals. Kendrick Lee
Kendrick Lee Yen Hui (; born 8 October 1984) is a Singaporean former badminton player. Lee was ranked fourteen, his highest ranking, in 2007. He was a two-time national champion. Career Lee was a two-time men's singles national champion of 2000 and 2005. He was the youngest to ever win the title when he won his first, at the age of 15. Lee was the silver medalists at the 2002 World Junior Championships, became the first Singaporean to reach the World Junior finals. He competed at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester, and was part of the team that clinched the silver medal. Joachim Persson (born 23 May 1983) is a badminton player from Denmark. Career Persson was born in Denmark but his family moved to Germany in his early years. He began to playing badminton in Trittau, Germany together with his parents. As German player, he helped the German team to win the mixed team title at the 2001 European Junior Championships, also won a silver medal in the singles event. Simon Santoso (born 29 July 1985) is an Indonesian former badminton player. He was two-time Southeast Asian Games men's singles champion winning in 2009 and 2011, also featured in Indonesia team that won the men's team title in 2003, 2007, 2009, and 2011. Kenneth Jonassen (born 3 July 1974) is a badminton player from Denmark, who won Danish national and international titles during the first decade of the 21st century. Chen Yu (badminton)
Chen Yu (born 8 May 1980) is a former Chinese badminton player from Nanning, Guangxi. Career Chen had joined the Guangxi team in 1993, and was selected to join the national team in 1998. Chen won the men's singles title at the Chinese National Championships in 2002 and 2003. On the international badminton circuit he won the 2006 Thailand Open by defeating two fellow countrymen (and two fellow "Chens"), Chen Hong in the semifinals, and Chen Jin in a very close final.
