2007 Gulf Cup Of Nations
The 18th Arabian Gulf Cup ( ar, was the كأس الخليج العربي) 18th edition of the Arabian Gulf Cup. It took place in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates from 17 to 30 January 2007. The tournament was won by hosts UAE, who beat neighbors Oman 1–0 in the final, courtesy of a goal by Ismail Matar who finished the tournament as top scorer with five goals in all. The UAE became the fifth country to lift the title after Kuwait, Iraq, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. In the competition there was also some very serious disciplinary problems with a total of 38 yellow cards and 7 red cards awarded in only 12 matches. As in previous Gulf Cups there have also been bad refereeing calls. Ismail Matar
Ismail Matar Ibrahim Khamis Al Mukhaini Al Junaibi ( ar, إسماعيل مطر; born 7 April 1983 in Sur) is an Omani footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder or forward for UAE Pro League club Al Wahda. Matar was awarded the Golden Ball at the 2003 World Youth Championships after being voted the tournament's best player even though the UAE only reached the quarter finals. He is best known for leading the UAE to their first ever trophy, which was held in Abu Dhabi in 2007. Matar scored 5 goals in 5 games, and was named player of the tournament and the top scorer. Mohammed Omar Mohammed Ahmed Al-Shaddadi, known as Mohammad Omar ( ar, محمد عمر, born November 11, 1976 in Dubai, UAE) is a retired Emirati footballer, serving as the CEO for Mumbai Tigers F.C. in India. He was the captain of the UAE national football team from 2002-2008.
