2007 FIVB Volleyball Women's World Cup
The 2007 FIVB Women's World Cup was held from 2 to 16 November 2007 in Japan. Each team plays once against each of the 11 remaining teams. Points are accumulated during the whole tournament, and the final ranking is determined by the total points gained. Simona Gioli
Simona Gioli (born September 17, 1977, in Rapallo) is a retired volleyball player from Italy. Currently, she plays for Galatasaray in Turkey. Gioli was a member of the Women's National Team that won the gold medal at the 2007 European Championship in Belgium and Luxembourg. Gioli was named "Most Valuable Player and ""Best Blocker" at the 2007 FIVB Women's World Cup and 2009 FIVB Women's World Grand Champions Cup. She was also awarded "MVP" at the 2006-07 CEV Cup won by her team Sirio Perugia. She won the 2007–08 CEV Indesit Champions League with Sirio Perugia and also was individually awarded "Most Valuable Player". Nippon Gaishi Hall
, formerly Nagoya Rainbow Hall, is an indoor sports arena located in Nagoya, Japan. From April 1, 2007, its name was changed to Nippon Gaishi Hall, to reflect the sponsorship of the NGK Insulators. The capacity of the arena is 10,000 people. The hall hosted some of the group games for the 2006 and 2010 editions of the official Women's Volleyball World Championship. Sara Anzanello
Sara Anzanello (30 July 1980 – 25 October 2018) was an Italian volleyball player in the middle hitter-blocker role. Biography Anzanello was born in San Donà di Piave, province of Venice. She debuted for Italy national team in 1998, when she was 17 years old. She had a total of 203 caps for her team. Health and death In 2013, Anzanello required a liver transplant after contracting a severe form of hepatitis in Azerbaijan. She recovered and returned to the playing field. However, in mid-2017, she was diagnosed with leukemia. She died a year later in October 2018 at age 38. Martina Guiggi
Martina Guiggi (born 1 May 1984) is an Italian volleyball player who plays as a middle blocker. She competed at the 2008 and 2016 Olympics and won the 2007 Women's European Volleyball Championship and 2007 FIVB Women's World Cup. Career Guiggi was included to the national team in 2002, and in 2006 was named Best Blocker of the European Cup. She played at the 2013 Club World Championship with Guangdong Evergrande winning the bronze medal after defeating Voléro Zürich 3–1. Besides indoors volleyball she competed nationally in beach volleyball. Paola Cardullo (born 18 March 1982 in Omegna) is a volleyball player from Italy, who was a member of the Women's National Team that won the gold medal at the 2007 European Championship in Belgium and Luxembourg. There she was named ''Best Libero'' of the tournament. Career Cardullo also competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, where Italy ended up in fifth place and she was named ''Best Libero'' at the end of the Olympic tournament. She won the bronze medal at the 2007–08 CEV Indesit Champions League with Asystel Novara and also was individually awarded ''Best Libero''. In the 2012-12 champions league, Cardullo played with the French club RC Cannes, capturing the silver medal and the Best Libero award. Francesca Piccinini
Francesca Piccinini (born 10 January 1979 in Massa) is an Italian volleyball player who has represented Italy four times (2000, 2004, 2008 and 2012) at the Summer Olympics. She was a member of the Women's National Team that won the gold medal at the 2002 World Championship in Germany. She made her debut for Italy on 10 June 1995 against the United States. She was inspired to become a professional volleyball player by the Japanese anime '' Attack No. 1'', shown in Italy in the 1980s under the title ''Mimì e la nazionale della pallavolo''. Francesca Ferretti (born 15 February 1984 in Reggio Emilia) is an Italian professional volleyball player who plays as a setter. As a member of the Italy women's national volleyball team she played in many international competitions (Olympic Games, FIVB World Championship, FIVB World Cup, FIVB World Grand Prix, European Championships) and is a World Cup and European Championship winner. Antonella Del Core (born 5 November 1980 in Naples, Italy) is an Italian professional volleyball player. She plays for Italy women's national volleyball team. She has competed in the 2004 and 2012 Summer Olympics. She is tall. She won the Best Server award of the 2013–14 CEV Champions League and won the title with the Russian club Dinamo Kazan. Taismary Agüero
Taismary Agüero Leiva (born March 5, 1977) is a Cuban-born Italian volleyball player. She is the only player to represent two women's volleyball national team to win Major titles (1995 FIVB World Cup, 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games, 1998 FIVB World Championship, 1999 FIVB World Cup and 2000 Sydney Olympic Games for Cuba; 2007 FIVB World Cup for Italy). Jenny Barazza (born July 24, 1981) is an Italian volleyball player. She was born in Codogné, Veneto. She began to play in her native town. She scored her first success with Foppapedretti Bergamo, with which she was two times national champion (2004 and 2006), European champion (2005), won a CEV Cup (2004) and one National Cup (2006). Volleyball At The 2008 Summer Olympics – Women's Tournament
The women's tournament in volleyball at the 2008 Summer Olympics was held at Capital Indoor Stadium and Beijing Institute of Technology Gymnasium from 9 to 23 August 2008. The twelve competing teams were split equally into two pools of six teams. Each team played all other teams in their pool with the winning team gaining 2 points and the losing side 1 point. The top four teams from each pool progressed through to the quarterfinals. The rest of the tournament was a single-elimination bracket, with a bronze medal match held between the two semifinal losers. A total of 38 matches were played: 15 in each group, 4 quarterfinals, 2 semifinals, 1 bronze medal match, and 1 gold medal match. Japan Standard Time
