2007 Christchurch Mayoral Election
The 2007 Christchurch mayoral election was part of the 2007 New Zealand local elections. On 13 October of that year, elections were held for the Mayor of Christchurch plus other local government roles. Incumbent Garry Moore retired in 2007 after nine years in the office. Bob Parker, previously mayor of Banks Peninsula, beat the Christchurch 2021 representative, Megan Woods, with a majority of 14,212 votes (13.73%). Media personality Jo Giles, who had previously contested the electorate for the ACT Party for Parliament, came a distant third. A further seven candidate contested the election. Ngāi Tahu
Ngāi Tahu, or Kāi Tahu, is the principal Māori (tribe) of the South Island. Its (tribal area) is the largest in New Zealand, and extends from the White Bluffs / Te Parinui o Whiti (southeast of Blenheim), Mount Mahanga and Kahurangi Point in the north to Stewart Island / Rakiura in the south. The comprises 18 (governance areas) corresponding to traditional settlements. Ngāi Tahu originated in the Gisborne District of the North Island, along with Ngāti Porou and Ngāti Kahungunu, who all intermarried amongst the local Ngāti Ira. Over time, all but Ngāti Porou would migrate away from the district. Kyle Chapman (New Zealand Activist)
Kyle Chapman is a New Zealand far-right political activist and the former national director of the New Zealand National Front (NZNF), a white nationalist political party. He has stood unsuccessfully three times for the Christchurch mayoralty: first for the NZNF (2004); then for the National Democrats Party (2007); and then for the Resistance Party (2013). Chapman founded Right Wing Resistance, a neo-Nazi group, in 2009. The Christchurch City Council is the local government authority for Christchurch in New Zealand. It is a territorial authority elected to represent the people of Christchurch. Tutehounuku "Nuk" Korako ( ; born 1954) is a New Zealand politician and member of Canterbury Regional Council (Environment Canterbury). He was previously a list Member of Parliament, representing the National Party, from 2014 to 2019. Early life and family Korako is of the Ngāi Tahu iwi.
