2007 Basque Foral Elections
The 2007 Basque foral elections were held on Sunday, 27 May 2007, to elect the 8th General Assemblies (Juntas Generales), General Assemblies of Álava, Biscay and Gipuzkoa. All 153 seats in the three General Assemblies were up for election. The elections were held simultaneously with 2007 Spanish regional elections, regional elections in thirteen Autonomous communities of Spain, autonomous communities and 2007 Spanish local elections, local elections all throughout Spain. General Assemblies (Juntas Generales)
The General AssembliesThe official name of the legislature/parliament is "General Assemblies" (plural). The name is plural, although it is a single legislature/parliament (in Spanish it is "JuntaS", not "Junta"). Aralar (Basque Political Party)
Aralar was a Basque nationalism, Basque socialism, socialist and separatist political party in Spain. It was opposed to the violent struggle of ETA (separatist group), ETA. History Aralar was born in the 1990s from a critical tendency within Herri Batasuna (HB) and Euskal Herritarrok (EH), led by Patxi Zabaleta. The tendency had its main base in Navarre. The breaking of ETA's truce in 2000 provoked Herri Batasuna's reformation into Batasuna, to have presence in all Euskal Herria. Following disagreements over the internal organization of Batasuna, Aralar broke away to form a separate political party. In 2004 the youth wing of Aralar, Iratzarri, was founded. In the May 2003 election for the Navarre Assembly, Aralar obtained 24,068 votes (8.02% of the valid votes) and four seats and in the same community obtained 4.76% of the valid votes in the municipal elections and 18 local councillors. The Basque Nationalist Party–Basque Solidarity alliance (English for ''Partido Nacionalista Vasco–Eusko Alkartasuna'') was the electoral coalition formed by the Basque Nationalist Party (PNV) and Eusko Alkartasuna (EA) to contest local and regional elections in the Basque Country (as PNV–EA) and Navarre (as EA–PNV) between 1999 and 2006. Basque Government
The Basque Government ( eu, Eusko Jaurlaritza, es, Gobierno Vasco) is the governing body of the Basque Autonomous Community of Spain. The head of the Basque government is known as the ''Lehendakari''. The Lehendakari is appointed by the Basque Parliament every four years, after a regional election. Its headquarters are located in the Lakua district of Vitoria-Gasteiz in Álava. The first Basque Government was created after the approval of the first Basque Statute of Autonomy on 1 October 1936, in the midst of the Spanish Civil War. Basque Nationalist Action
Basque Nationalist Action ( eu, Eusko Abertzale Ekintza, es, Acción Nacionalista Vasca, EAE–ANV) is a Basque nationalist party based in Spain. Founded in 1930, it was the first Basque nationalist political party to exist running on a socialist program. On 16 September 2008, the party was outlawed by the Spanish Supreme Court based on ties with ETA. The Spanish ruling was appealed to the European Court of Human Rights, which, after reviewing the question, upheld the Spanish courts on the matter.
