2007 Balearic Regional Election
The 2007 Balearic regional election was held on Sunday, 27 May 2007, to elect the 7th Parliament of the autonomous community of the Balearic Islands. All 59 seats in the Parliament were up for election. The election was held simultaneously with regional elections in twelve other autonomous communities and local elections all throughout Spain. On 1 March 2007, the reform of the Statute of Autonomy of the Balearic Islands came into effect. Among other changes, it gave more autonomy to every Island Council, with the creation of the Island Council of Formentera—formerly the Island Council of Ibiza and Formentera covered both islands—, composed by the municipal councillors elected in the Formentera municipal election. The Parliament of the Balearic Islands (Catalan: ''Parlament de les Illes Balears'') is the unicameral autonomous parliament of the Balearic Islands, one of the autonomous communities of Spain. The Balearic Islands ( es, Islas Baleares ; or ca, Illes Balears ) are an archipelago in the Balearic Sea, near the eastern coast of the Iberian Peninsula. Formentera is one of the four constituencies ( es, circunscripciones) represented in the Parliament of the Balearic Islands, the regional legislature of the Autonomous Community of the Balearic Islands. The constituency currently elects one deputy using plurality voting. Its boundaries correspond to those of the island of Formentera. Until the 2003 election, the results in this district were also used to determine the composition of the Island Council of Ibiza and Formentera during the same term as the Parliament, with Formentera counting for 1 out of the 13 seats of the Council—11 out of 12 from 1983 to 1987—.
