GET-ligaen
Eliteserien, known as Fjordkraftligaen due to sponsorship, is the premier Norwegian ice hockey league, organised by the Norwegian Ice Hockey Association. It comprises 10 clubs and works on the premise of promotion and relegation, in which the two teams who placed last must play the top two teams from First Division (the league ranked immediately below) for the rights to play in the next Eliteserie season. History The Norwegian Ice Hockey Association (NIHF) was founded on 16 September 1934. The same season also saw the debut of a national league for ice hockey. It was then known as 1. divisjon (''1st division''), a name it held until 1990, when the elite clubs broke away and formed a new top league, Eliteserien (''The Elite League''). In 2004, telecommunications company UPC bought the naming rights for the league. UPC Norway changed its name to GET in 2006 and hence the name of the league was also altered. Pål Grotnes
Pål Grotnes (born 7 March 1977 in Lørenskog, Norway) is a Norwegian professional ice hockey player, who plays for Stjernen and Norway's national team as a goaltender. Playing career Grotnes was born in Norway and raised in Sweden, where his mother was from. He began playing hockey at the age of four as his brother, two years older than Grotnes, wanted to play. Prior to the 2008–09 season he signed with Stjernen in the Norwegian GET-league, after having played two seasons with Comet. In 2008 he backstopped Comet to the semifinals for the first time in franchise history. Since then he has played two seasons for the Stjernen Hockey team, which he led to the quarter-finals in 2009-10. Stjernan was defeated by Sparta. International career 2006 Grotnes is the starting goaltender for Norway in the 2006 IIHF World Championship. Ruben Smith
Ruben Smith (born April 15, 1987) is a retired Norwegian professional ice hockey goaltender who last played for Stavanger Oilers in Norway's GET-ligaen. Up to the 2010/2011 season he played with the Storhamar Dragons of Norway's elite GET-ligaen. Smith joined the Storhamar organization in 2003 and played three seasons with their junior elite team. He made his professional debut during the 2005–06 season, appearing in 13 games and recording a goals against average of 0.50 and a save percentage of .973. He backstopped the Dragons to the championship title in 2008, earning him the playoffs MVP trophy. During the 2010 offseason he signed with the newly promoted Rosenborg of Trondheim. Christian Larrivée (born August 25, 1982) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player. He played in the North American minor leagues until 2006, when he moved to Europe. Born in Gaspé, Quebec, Quebec, Canada, Larrivée played junior hockey for the Chicoutimi Sagueneens from 1999–2003. He was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens of the NHL in the fourth round (114th overall) in 2000. In 2003, he was signed by Canadiens and played for the Canadiens' top affiliate the Hamilton Bulldogs of the AHL and the Columbus Cottonmouths of the ECHL. He played the following season with the Long Beach Ice Dogs of the ECHL and nine games with Hamilton. In 2005–06, he played the entire season with Long Beach.
