2006–07 FC Basel Season
The 2006–07 season is Fussball Club Basel 1893's 114th in existence and the club's 13th consecutive season in the top flight of Swiss football. FCB played their home matches in the St. Jakob-Park, in the Basel quarter St. Alban in the south-east of the city. After four season as Basel's chairman Werner Edelmann stood down and Mrs Gisela Oeri was voted as the club's very first chairwoman at the AGM. Overview Christian Gross was head coach for the eighth successive season. Ahead of the new season Basel made a number of transfers. The most notable was the replacement of Swiss international goalkeeper Pascal Zuberbühler, who transferred to West Bromwich Albion, with the Argentinian international Franco Costanzo who came from Deportivo Alavés. Delron Buckley was signed on loan from Borussia Dortmund. Cristiano dos Santos Rodrigues was signed in from Roda JC and Franz Burgmeier was signed in from FC Aarau. Fussball Club Basel 1893, widely known as FC Basel, FCB, or just Basel, is a Swiss football club based in Basel, in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Formed in 1893, the club has been Swiss national champions 20 times, Swiss Cup winners 13 times, and Swiss League Cup winners once. Basel have competed in European competitions every season since 1999–2000. They have qualified for the Group stages of the Champions League more times than any other Swiss club – a total of seven times – and are the only Swiss club to have ever qualified to the Group stages directly. Samuele Preisig
Samuele Preisig (born 5 April 1984) is a former footballer from Switzerland, who played as defender. Career Preisig signed his first professional contract with FC Basel and joined their U-21 in the summer of 2003. He was called into their first team for some test games that year. One year later, he joined Basel's first team during the Autumn of their 2004–05 season under head coach Christian Gross. After playing in ten test games Preisig played his first team debut for the club in the Swiss Cup game on 18 September 2004 as Basel won 4–0 against local amateur club FC Oberdorf. He played his domestic league debut for the club in the home game in the St. Jakob-Park on 11 December as Basel played a three all draw with Thun. The game wasn't ideal for Preisig. Djamel Eddine Mesbah ( ar, جمال الدين مصباح; born 9 October 1984) is an Algerian former professional footballer who last played as a left back for Étoile Carouge. An Algerian international, Mesbah was a member of the Algeria national team at two World Cups, the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa and the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, as well as 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa. Beşiktaş () is a district and municipality of Istanbul, Turkey, located on the European shore of the Bosphorus strait. FC Aarau
FC Aarau is a Swiss football club based in Aarau. They play in the Swiss Challenge League, the second tier of Swiss football after being relegated from Swiss Super League. History FC Aarau was formed on 26 May 1902 by workers from a local brewery. The early days of the club were a success and they won the Swiss championship in 1911–12 and then again in 1913–14. The club spent 25 years, from 1907 to 1933, in the top league but were relegated to the lower league and were unable to return to the top flight for a number of decades. In the 1980–81 season the club were able to return to the top league in the Swiss football pyramid after a 3–1 victory over Vevey-Sports. Franz Burgmeier
Franz Burgmeier (born 7 April 1982) is a Liechtenstein former professional footballer, who played as a midfielder. Born in Triesen, Burgmeier was a burgeoning footballer and keen skier, until he gave up the latter sport at 16 following a serious injury. Having been a youth player for Triesen, he started his professional career with Vaduz. Burgmeier won several Liechtensteiner Cups with Vaduz, who were promoted to the Swiss Challenge League in 2001, and played in the UEFA Cup. After two unsuccessful attempts to win promotion to the Swiss Super League, Burgmeier left for Aarau in 2005. He spent only one season with Aarau before a move to the previous season's runners-up Basel in 2006. Sportvereniging Roda Juliana Combinatie Kerkrade (; Ripuarian: ), also known as Roda JC Kerkrade () or commonly Roda JC or Roda, is a Dutch professional football club based in Kerkrade, Netherlands. Cristiano dos Santos Rodrigues (born 3 June 1981), commonly known as Cristiano, is a retired Brazilian footballer. Biography Early career Cristiano began his club career with Dutch club NAC Breda. He signed his first professional contract with Breda at age 16. Cristiano was impressive, without being a prolific goal scorer and spent four years with Breda before moving to fellow Dutch side Roda JC. Delron Sebastian Buckley (born 7 December 1977) is a South African former professional footballer. His preferred position was the left wing although he could also play as a striker. In September 2021, he was appointed Head Coach of the University of KwaZulu-Natal soccer team. Club career Born in Durban, Buckley's football career began with his local team Butcherfille Rovers Durban. At the age of 17 he was signed by German club VfL Bochum. Buckley spent most of his career in Germany, going through Bochum's youth teams and debuting in the Bundesliga in 1995.
