2006–07 Atlético Madrid Season
Atlético Madrid opened a new chapter in its history with the appointment of Mexican coach Javier Aguirre, who had been successful managing Osasuna. With the club-record signing of superstarlet Sergio Agüero as well as Mariano Pernía and Raúl García, Atlético emulated at repeating Aguirre's recent feat of taking Osasuna to UEFA Champions League. The end result was 60 points, the best points haul in its five-season La Liga return, although this was not enough even for UEFA Cup qualification, which resulted in captain Fernando Torres departing for Liverpool, the transfer causing fury among the support. The Campeonato Nacional de Liga de Primera División, commonly known simply as Primera División in Spain, and as La Liga in English-speaking countries and officially as LaLiga Santander for sponsorship reasons, stylized as LaLiga, is the men's top professional football division of the Spanish football league system. Fabiano Eller dos Santos, known as Fabiano Eller (born 19 November 1977 in Linhares), is a Brazilian former footballer who last played as a central defender for Náutico. In the 2006 season, he played for Internacional while on loan from Turkish giants Trabzonspor. Antonio López (footballer, Born 1981)
Antonio López Guerrero (; born 13 September 1981) is a Spanish former professional footballer who played mainly as a left back. He spent most of his professional career with Atlético Madrid, appearing in more than 300 official matches and winning four major titles, including two Europa League trophies. Georgios "Giourkas" Seitaridis ( ; born 4 June 1981) is a Greek former professional footballer who played as a right-back and occasionally as a centre-back. Ismael Gómez Falcón (born 24 April 1984) is a Spanish former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper.
