2006 Santos FC Season
The 2006 season was Santos Futebol Clube's ninety-fourth season in existence and the club's forty-seventh consecutive season in the top flight of Brazilian football. This season, Santos announced the return of the manager Vanderlei Luxemburgo, who had left the club in the last season and failed at Real Madrid. On 9 April 2006, Santos won the Campeonato Paulista for sixteenth time in history, by beating Portuguesa 2–0 in the last match. On 31 August, they signed Brazilian midfielder Zé Roberto who was free agent since he left FC Bayern Munich, until June 2007. In the Campeonato Brasileiro, Santos ended in the 4th place, securing a place in the 2007 Copa Libertadores. In the Copa do Brasil, Santos were knocked out by Ipatinga in the quarter-finals. Santos Futebol Clube (), commonly known simply as Santos or Santos FC and nicknamed the ''Peixe'' (; "fish"), is a Brazilian sports club based in Vila Belmiro, a '' bairro'' in the city of Santos. It is also the team with the most goals in football history. It plays in the ''Paulistão'', the State of São Paulo's premier state league, as well as the ''Brasileirão'', the top tier of the Brazilian football league system. Zé Roberto
José Roberto da Silva Júnior (born 6 July 1974), commonly known as Zé Roberto, is a Brazilian former professional footballer who played as a left wing-back or as a midfielder. Currently, he is a technical advisor to Palmeiras, acting directly with the players and the coaching staff. Club career Early career Zé Roberto started in the youth ranks of Palestra de São Bernardo but it was while playing for Portuguesa, as a left-back, that he became known throughout Brazil after finishing as runner-up in 1996 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A. Julio César Manzur Caffarena (born 22 January 1981) is a Paraguayan former footballer who last played for Rubio Ñu of the Paraguayan Primera División. Club career Manzur started his career at Cerro Corá in his native country before moving to Paraguayan giants Guaraní. He also played for Santos F.C. in Brazil, C.F. Pachuca in Mexico and Libertad in his native country. In 2009, he joined Tigre to play in the Primera División Argentina and the Copa Sudamericana. Domingos Nascimento dos Santos Filho (born 12 December 1985), simply known as Domingos, is a Brazilian footballer who plays as a central defender. Carlos Andrade Souza (born 23 January 1987), known as Carlinhos, is a Brazilian footballer who plays as a left back for Maringá. Biography Carlinhos started his career at Santos. His contract was due to expired in August 2008 but in June 2008 signed a new 3-year contract and joined Cruzeiro in a 6-month deal. In January 2009 he was signed by fellow São Paulo State club Mirassol in a 5-month loan. Carlinhos then sold to Brasa Futebol Clube for R$400,000 in 2009, a proxy club for third parties ownership. Fabio Costa (born 27 November 1977 in Camaçari, Bahia) is a former Brazilian goalkeeper. Career Costa played for Brazil under-23 and won the 1996 Toulon Tournament and the 2000 South American Pre-Olympic Tournament.
