2006 International Rally Challenge Season
The 2006 International Rally Challenge was the inaugural season of the rallying series, which was renamed to the Intercontinental Rally Challenge for 2007 onwards. The season consisted of four rounds and began on May 26, with the Zulu Rally South Africa. The season ended on September 16 with the Rally Sanremo. Giandomenico Basso won the title with Fiat Grande Punto Abarth S2000 ahead of Alister McRae and Paolo Andreucci Paolo Andreucci (born 21 April 1965) is an Italian rally driver. Intercontinental Rally Challenge
The Intercontinental Rally Challenge was an FIA-sanctioned rallying series organised by SRW Events and Eurosport Events, and aimed to "give new opportunities to young or amateur rally drivers competing in recognised regional and international rallies, while offering organisers an innovative TV format concept, created by Eurosport." The series focused on Group N and Group A spec cars up to 2000 cc, including Super 2000, R4, R2 and R3. The series began in 2006 under the name ''International Rally Challenge'', adopting the name, ''Intercontinental Rally Challenge'' in 2007. Renato Travaglia
Renato Travaglia (born October 26, 1965) is an Italian rally driver. He is best known for his success in the Italian and European rally championships, having won both in 2002 driving a Peugeot 206 WRC and the latter in 2005 driving a Super 1600 Renault Clio. Overall in his career he won 12 National and International Rally Championships. He has been a regular competitor in the Rallye Sanremo during the nineties and early noughties, which was at the time a round of the World Rally Championship; his best result was a fifth-place finish in 2001. He also competed in the Race of Champions, representing Italy in 2002 and 2003, reaching the final of the Nations' Cup in 2002 alongside Fabrizio Giovanardi and Marco Melandri but losing to the United States. Gilles Panizzi
Gilles Panizzi (born 19 September 1965) is a former French rally driver. Panizzi was born in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, Alpes-Maritimes. Like many of his fellow rally racing countrymen, Panizzi spent a great deal of his developmental driving years participating in asphalt rally events throughout his native land. In 1996 and 1997, Panizzi won the French Championship title in a Peugeot-backed (funded) 306 kit car. It was at that point that he was nominated to drive for Peugeot as their resident asphalt (tarmac/sealed-surface) expert. Between 1999 and 2003 Panizzi had great success in his role as Peugeot's tarmac expert. He won a total of seven World Rally Championship rounds in this period - all on tarmac. Hergen Fekken
Cyclone Hergen was an intense European windstorm that moved across Northern Europe during mid December 2011. It was first noted over the central North Atlantic Ocean by the Met Office. It then later reached peak intensity just northwest of Ireland and then crossed the north of Scotland hours later. It hung around the coast of Norway for the next week before being absorbed by another strong windstorm named Joachim. Hergen was not the first storm to strike Western Europe during the last week as Cyclone Friedhelm brought widespread damage and very strong winds on 8 December. Hergen was followed by Joachim a few days later, then Oliver /Patrick (Cato/Dagmar) during the Christmas holiday. Freddy Loix
Freddy Loix (born 10 November 1970) is a Belgian rally driver. Career Loix's career in motor sport began in karting at the age of 15. In 1990, he bought his first rally car, a Lancia Delta group N, though he soon progressed to a Mitsubishi Galant Group N. 1993 saw a big step forward in Loix's career as he became part of the Marlboro World Championship Team driving an Opel Astra and he became the Belgian F2-champion. Nicknamed ''Fast Freddy'' by his fans, he made the switch to four wheel drive in 1996 with a Toyota Celica GT-Four and completed 3 World Rally Championship (WRC) events and a further 6 in 1997. This period saw continuing sponsorship with Marlboro and a switch to the new Toyota Corolla WRC.
