2006 FIFA World Cup Squads
This article lists the confirmed national football squads for the 2006 FIFA World Cup tournament held in Germany, between 9 June and 9 July 2006. Before announcing their final squad, several teams named a provisional squad of 23 to 33 players, but each country's final squad of 23 players had to be submitted by 15 May 2006. Replacement of injured players was permitted until 24 hours before the team's first World Cup game. Players marked ( c) were named as captain for their national squad. Number of caps counts until the start of the World Cup, including all pre-tournament friendlies. Club information is that used by FIFA. Douglas Esteban Sequeira Solano (Also known as ''El Esqueleto Sequeira'') (born 23 August 1977 in San José, Costa Rica) is a Costa Rican former professional footballer who played as a defender. Club career Early career Sequeira started his career in Costa Rica by playing for Saprissa in 1995. He moved abroad after the 1997 FIFA World Youth Championship to spend time in Europe with Feyenoord, who loaned him to then feeder club Excelsior for whom he made his debut in the Eerste Divisie against Emmen on 18 October 1997. Álvaro Saborío
Álvaro Alberto Saborío Chacón (; born 25 March 1982) is a Costa Rican professional footballer, who plays as a forward and captains Costa Rican club San Carlos from the Primera División de Costa Rica. Saborío originally retired in 2017, but returned months later. José Porras
José Francisco Porras Hidalgo (born 8 November 1970) is a Costa Rican retired footballer who last played for Carmelita in Costa Rica. Currently, he is the technical secretary at Saprissa. Club career Porras made his debut in Costa Rica's Primera División for Herediano on 3 February 1991 against Guanacasteca and conceded his first league goal three days later against Saprissa. He played for Belén, Puntarenas and Carmelita during the 90s, before joining Saprissa in 1996. He returned to Carmelita in 2000 but rejoined Saprissa in 2002. Gabriel Badilla Segura (June 30, 1984 – November 20, 2016) was a Costa Rican footballer who played as a defender. Club career Badilla began his career with Deportivo Saprissa, with whom he won two national championships as well as a UNCAF Cup title and a CONCACAF Champions Cup title. He was part of the team that played the 2005 FIFA Club World Championship Toyota Cup and finished third behind São Paulo and Liverpool Badilla signed for New England Revolution on August 18, 2008. Carlos Gerardo Hernández Valverde (born 9 April 1982), known simply as Carlos Hernández, is a former Costa Rican football player who last played as an attacking midfielder for Puntarenas in the Segunda División de Costa Rica. Club career Hernández had become one of the most important players in the Primera División de Costa Rica, the Costa Rican top tier national league, where he was the top assister in the 2004–05 and 2005–06 seasons. He had built a reputation as a great scorer from long and middle distances combined with high level vision and technique that made him one of the most dangerous midfielders in the region. Harold Wallace
Harold Wallace McDonald (born September 7, 1975) is a Costa Rican former footballer who played as a right-back and central midfielder. Club career He started his career with Deportivo Saprissa, being part of their minor league system. After a season with Saprissa and then Belén, he was transferred alongside compatriot Jewisson Bennett to Zacatepec, of Mexico's professional football league. He then came back and signed with Saprissa's arch-rivals Alajuelense, earning a place in the starting line-up really quick and remained with the team for 7 years. Randall Azofeifa Corrales (born 30 December 1984) is a Costa Rican football midfielder who currently plays for Sporting San José. Club career Azofeifa won two national championship, the UNCAF Nations Cup title and a CONCACAF Champions Cup title with Deportivo Saprissa. Puntarenas () is a city in the Puntarenas canton of Puntarenas Province, on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. As the seat of the Municipality of Puntarenas canton, it is awarded the title of city, which is made from the Puntarenas, Chacarita and El Roble districts. Kurt Bernard Simpson (born December 8, 1977) is a Costa Rican former professional footballer. He last played for Limón F.C. and was the top scorer in the Costa Rican league in 2005-2006. Leonardo González Arce (born November 21, 1980) is a Costa Rican ex professional footballer who played as a defender for Herediano.
