The 19th European Athletics Championships were held in Gothenburg, Sweden, between 7 August and 13 August 2006. The competition arena was the Ullevi Stadium and the official motto "Catch the Spirit". Andrzej Krawczyk
Andrzej Krawczyk (born 11 April 1976, in Płońsk) is a retired Polish discus thrower. His personal best throw is 65.56 metres, achieved in July 2005 in Norrtälje. Career He started out in the shot put and was the bronze medallist at the European Youth Olympic Festival in 1993. He just missed out on a discus medal at the 1994 World Junior Championships in Athletics, placing fourth, but he topped the podium at the 1995 European Athletics Junior Championships the following year. He followed this up with a gold medal at the 1997 European Athletics U23 Championships. He cleared sixty metres for the first time in 1998, setting a season's best mark of 61.96 m in Sopot, but did not manage the feat at the 1998 European Athletics Championships, where he was eliminated in the qualifying round. He made his first senior appearance at world level at the 1999 World Championships in Athletics, but was also knocked out in the first round. Dmitriy Shevchenko (athlete)
Dmitriy Igorievich Shevchenko (russian: Дмитрий Игоревич Шевченко; born May 13, 1968, in Taganrog) is a Russian discus thrower who won silver medals at the World and European Championships. Despite this he did not throw past the 70 metres mark until 2002, when he achieved his personal best throw of 70.54 metres in Krasnodar. His three participations in the Olympics were all fruitless, especially the 2004 edition where he exited without any valid throws. He is a six-time national champion in the discus event. He missed the 1996 and 1997 seasons, due to a doping suspension. Niklas Arrhenius
Niklas Arrhenius (born September 10, 1982) is an American-Swedish track and field athlete who competes in the discus throw and shot put. He represented Sweden in the discus at 2008 Summer Olympics, was a four-time competitor at the World Athletics Championships (2007, 2011, 2013, 2017), and competed at five consecutive editions of the European Athletics Championships from 2006 to 2016. At the Swedish Athletics Championships he won seven national titles in discus, and was an eight-time champion in the shot put (combined indoors and outdoors). Arrhenius is the son of Anders Arrhenius, who competed internationally in the shot put for Sweden. Niklas' younger brother, Leif Arrhenius is also a thrower. Hannes Kirchler (born 22 December 1978 in Merano) is an Italian discus thrower. Biography He is an eleven-time national champion in the discus throw, and a member of C.S. Carabinieri, an Italian military police sporting club. In 2007, Kirchler achieved his personal best throw of 65.01 metres at the Italian national championships in Bolzano.
