The men's 200 metres at the 2006 European Athletics Championships were held at the Ullevi on August 9 and August 10. Obikwelu completed the sprinters' double, leading comfortably out of the last curve and continuing all the way to the finish. Wissman took silver in a time level with the national record. Devonish faded in the end and just managed to hold on to third in front of Belgian Kristof Beyens.. The 19th European Athletics Championships were held in Gothenburg, Sweden, between 7 August and 13 August 2006. The competition arena was the Ullevi Stadium and the official motto "Catch the Spirit". Paul Hession
Paul Hession (born 27 January 1983 in Galway) is an Irish international track and field athlete who is the fastest Irishman in history over 200 metres. He specialises in the sprinting events, particularly the 200 metres. He has won silver and bronze medals at the World University Games, a silver medallist in the 200 m in the 2008 IAAF World Athletics Final and in 2007 made the leap into world class by setting 4 Irish national records at 100 metres and 200 metres. He is a member of the Athenry Athletics Club. Career Early career After competing in the IAAF World Junior Championships in 2002, Hession made his major championship debut for Ireland the same year, at the 2002 European Championships where he finished 7th in his heat in a time of 21.28. Morten Jensen (born 2 December 1982 in Lynge) is a Danish former track and field athlete. He specialised in the long jump and also competed in the 100 metres and 200 metres sprints. Matic Osovnikar (born January 19, 1980 in Kranj) is a former Slovenian athlete specializing in the 100 metres. Osovnikar competed in the 2004 Summer Olympics where he achieved third place in his 100 metres heat, thus making through to the second round but narrowly missed out on a placing in the semi-finals after achieving fourth place in his second round heat. He was the bronze medalist in the 100 m at the 2006 European Athletics Championships, setting a new national record (10.14 s).
