2006 CAA Men's Basketball Tournament
The 2006 CAA men's basketball tournament was held from March 3–6, 2006 at the Richmond Coliseum in Richmond, Virginia. The winner of the tournament was UNC Wilmington, who received an automatic bid to the 2006 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament. George Mason, who lost to in the semi-finals of the tournament, earned an at-large bid to the 2006 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament, the CAA's first since 1986. George Mason would advance to the Final Four in the NCAA Tournament, the first CAA team to do so. Richmond Coliseum
Richmond Coliseum is a defunct arena located in downtown Richmond, Virginia, with a capacity of 13,500 that was most often used for various large concerts. The arena opened in 1971 and the region is looking to replace the aging facility with a larger one. The arena was quietly shuttered in February 2019 while new proposed replacements are in development. History Until John Paul Jones Arena opened in 2006, the Richmond Coliseum was the largest sports arena in Virginia. The Virginia Commonwealth University Rams men's basketball team played in the arena until the 7,500-seat Siegel Center opened on the VCU campus in 1999. Elvis Presley performed a concert at the coliseum on April 10, 1972, with footage being used in the film ''Elvis on Tour'' which documented Presley's spring tour of that year. John Goldsberry
John Goldsberry (born October 19, 1982) is a retired American professional basketball player who last played for Brose Baskets of the German League. Standing at 1.91 m (6 ft 3 in) in height, he played at the point guard and shooting guard positions. High school Goldsberry attended Butler High School, in Vandalia, Ohio, where he played basketball. College career After high school, Goldsberry played NCAA Division I college basketball at North Carolina-Wilmington, where he played with the UNC Wilmington Seahawks, from 2002 to 2006. Professional career Goldsberry began his pro career in 2006 with the German League club Giants Leverkusen. In 2007, he moved to the German club Artland Dragons. In 2008, he joined the German club Brose Baskets Bamberg. He re-signed with Brose in 2013. The Coastal Athletic Association men's basketball tournament is the conference championship tournament in basketball for the Coastal Athletic Association (formerly known as the Colonial Athletic Association). Loren Stokes
} Loren Stokes (born November 12, 1983) is an American professional basketball player from Buffalo, New York. He was a combo guard at Hofstra University from the 2003–04 season to 2006–07. He is 6'3" and weighs 175 lbs. Stokes is one of six players in Hofstra Pride history to score at least 2,000 points, amassing 2,148 points over his four-year career. A three time first team CAA player, 2004-05 all defensive CAA player, and 2006-07 CAA player of the year, Stokes was eligible for the 2007 NBA draft, he went undrafted. He was offered an invitation to play for the Orlando Magic in the NBA's summer league. Stokes was playing basketball in Cyprus for APOEL, for whom he was averaging 14.4 points per game. Shawn James (born September 10, 1983) is a Guyanese-American former professional basketball player. Standing at , he played at the power forward and center positions. The 2005–06 William & Mary Tribe men's basketball team represented The College of William & Mary during the 2005–06 college basketball season. This was head coach Tony Shaver's third season at William & Mary. The Tribe competed in the Colonial Athletic Association and played their home games at Kaplan Arena. They finished the season 8–20, 3–15 in CAA play and lost in the preliminary round of the 2006 CAA men's basketball tournament to VCU. They did not participate in any post-season tournaments.
