2006 America East Men's Basketball Tournament
The 2006 America East men's basketball tournament was held from March 3–5 at the Binghamton University Events Center. The final was held March 11 at the Recreation and Convocation Center at the University at Albany. Albany gained its first ever berth in the NCAA tournament with its 80-67 win over Vermont. Albany was given the 16th seed in the Washington D.C. Regional of the NCAA Tournament and lost in the first round to Connecticut 72–59, after Albany nearly became the first 16 seed to upset a 1 seed with a twelve-point lead with just over eleven minutes to play. Binghamton University Events Center
Binghamton University Events Center is the premier Division I Athletics and multipurpose facility at Binghamton University. The arena opened in 2004 and is adjacent to the Bearcat Sports Complex. It is home to the Binghamton Bearcats Division I Intercollegiate Athletic Program and can seat 5,142 patrons for home games, and over 8,000 for other large-scale events. It has hosted the 2005, 2006, and 2008 America East Conference men's basketball tournaments; the 2007 American East women's tournament as well as the first round and quarterfinal of the 2018 WBI tournament. The 2005–06 Albany Great Danes men's basketball team represented the University at Albany, SUNY in the 2005–06 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Great Danes, led by head coach Will Brown, played their home games at the SEFCU Arena in Albany, New York, as members of the America East Conference. Will Brown (basketball Coach)
William J. Brown (born October 8, 1971) is an American basketball coach. He is the former head men's basketball coach at Albany, where he served from 2002 to 2021, guiding the Great Danes to five NCAA tournament appearances. Playing career Born in Miller Place, New York, Brown played collegiate basketball at Dowling College, starting for three years. He finished his career as the school's all-time leader in assists, three-point field goals and free-throw percentage, and is the only player in Dowling history to score 1,000 points and tally 500 assists. Coaching career Brown began his coaching career at The College of Saint Rose, serving as an assistant coach for three seasons. America East Conference
The America East Conference is a collegiate athletic conference affiliated with NCAA Division I founded in 1979, whose members are located in the Northeastern United States. The conference has nine core members including eight public research universities, three of which, the University of Maine, the University of New Hampshire, and the University of Vermont, are the flagship universities of their states. The two non-flagship university centers of the State University of New York are in the conference: the University at Albany and Binghamton University.
