2005–06 Sydney FC Season
The 2005-06 season was Sydney FC's first season, formed to compete in the new Australian A-League competition. The club finished second on the table in the regular season, and won the first A-League Grand Final, defeating Central Coast Mariners 1–0. Sydney also represented Oceania at the FIFA Club World Championship 2005 where they were placed fifth. 2005–06 A-League
The 2005–06 A-League was the 29th season of top-flight soccer in Australia, and the inaugural season of the A-League. After over 12 months without a national professional club competition since the close of the 2003–04 National Soccer League season, the first match in the A-League was played on 26 August 2005. The competition was made up of a triple round robin league stage before a championship playoff featuring the top four teams. Of the eight participants, four came from the National Soccer League (1977–2004): Perth Glory (established 1995), New Zealand Knights (1999), Newcastle Jets (2000) and Adelaide United (2003). New Zealand Knights had previously entered the NSL as the ''Auckland Football Kingz'', but were significantly restructured and have a vastly different playing roster. Mark Rudan
Marko Ante "Mark" Rudan (born 27 August 1975) is an Australian soccer manager and former player. He is currently the head coach for A-League Men club Western Sydney Wanderers. Rudan was one of the inaugural inductees into the Sydney FC Hall of Fame in 2015. After four successful years as head coach of Sydney United, which included two National Premier Leagues titles, Rudan decided to leave his post to work with the Australia national under-20 soccer team, but returned shortly into the 2017 season. Club career Rudan joined NSL club Sydney United in 1993 at completion of the AIS program. He spent much of his five seasons at United totalling 73 NSL appearances by the end of the 1997–98 season. Jacob Timpano
Jacob Timpano (born 3 January 1986) in Wollongong, Australia) is a former Australian footballer and current head coach of Wollongong Wolves in the National Premier Leagues NSW. Club career Timpano previously played for the Wollongong Wolves in the National Soccer League. He is a central defender, and has represented Australia at the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship and captained Australia in the 2003 FIFA U-17 World Championship as an Under-20 and Under-17 respectively. In the 2005-06 A-League season, Timpano was an essential part of Sydney FC championship-winning side - playing in 19 of the club's 24 games. Mark Milligan
Mark Daniel Milligan (born 4 August 1985) is an Australian former professional footballer. Starting his career as a defender, Milligan has spent much of his later career playing as a midfielder. He is currently a football expert commentary and analysis at 10 Sport. He is currently an assistant coach for A-League Men club Adelaide United. Terry McFlynn
Terence Martin "Terry" McFlynn (born 27 March 1981) is a retired footballer from Northern Ireland who is most well known for playing for the A-League club Sydney FC. He is currently serving as the W-League and Academy manager for Perth Glory FC. Early life McFlynn grew up in Swatragh, in Northern Ireland to a Catholic family. He played Gaelic Football for the first sixteen years of his life, one of Ireland's traditional sports, before he switched to football on advice from his uncle. Club career McFlynn began his footballing career in England as an apprentice at Queens Park Rangers in 1996. Andrew Packer
Andrew Packer (born 16 June 1980 in Ipswich, Queensland, Australia) is a former Australian footballer. Biography He attended St. Josephs Nudgee College in Brisbane. Alejandro Salazar
Alejandro Salazar (born February 18, 1984) is an American former professional soccer player. He played during the 2000s in the United States and Australia. Biography Born in Eugene, Oregon, Salazar's father is marathon runner Alberto Salazar. Playing career Salazar played college soccer at the University of Portland from 2002 to 2004, where he was named WCC Freshman of the Year as a freshman, and was the Conference Player of the Year as a sophomore. He left Portland after his junior year to join the newly formed Australian A-league, having registered 64 goals and 42 assists as a Pilot. David Carney
David Raymond Carney (born 30 November 1983) is an Australian former association football midfielder and who is incoming coach for 2023 season NPL NSW side Wollongong Wolves FC. Born in Sydney, he began his playing career with the New South Wales Institute of Sport before moving to England to join Everton. Having failed to break into the Everton first team he then moved to Oldham Athletic, Halifax Town and Hamilton Academical in Scotland before returning to his native Australia. After a successful spell with Sydney FC in A-League, Carney then returned to England, signing with Sheffield United before spending time with Norwich City on loan and eventually moving to the Netherlands to play for Twente. Sasho Petrovski
Sasho Petrovski ( mk, Сашо Петровски, ''Sašo Petrovski'') (born 5 March 1975) is an Australian football (soccer) player who plays for South Coast Wolves. Petrovski has two caps for the Australian national team. Petrovski was known in the A-League as one of the most prolific strikers, scoring 41 goals between the 3 clubs. Stephen Christopher Corica ( born 24 March 1973) is an Australian association football manager and former player. He is the current manager of Australian club Sydney FC. A technically gifted and skillful attacking midfielder during his playing career, he represented Australia more than thirty times and captained Sydney FC to a domestic double. David Allen Zdrilic ( hr, Zdrilić; born 13 April 1974) is an Australian soccer coach and former player, who is currently the assistant coach of Serie A club Genoa. Zdrilic is also a football presenter on the Special Broadcasting Service (SBS), Most recently he was a key figure in SBS's coverage of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. Matthew Bingley
Matthew Bingley (born 16 August 1971) is an Australian former soccer player. A utility who can play in midfield or defence, he has played over 300 matches in nearly 20 years at the highest level of domestic football in Australia.
