2005–06 Purdue Boilermakers Men's Basketball Team
The 2005–06 Purdue Boilermakers men's basketball team represented Purdue University during the 2005-06 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. Matt Painter, the current head coach, began his first year at Purdue. On February 11 the Boilermakers upset #22 Michigan at Mackey Arena, which was their first win over a ranked team since beating #19 Wisconsin in January 2004. Purdue finished 9–19 overall and 3–15 in the Big Ten. Although they finished in last place in the Big Ten, they had improved on their overall record from the previous year by two games. Matt Painter
Matthew Curtis Painter (born August 27, 1970) is an American basketball coach and former player. He is currently the men's basketball coach at Purdue University, having held that position since 2005. Before Purdue, Painter held coaching positions at Southern Illinois, Eastern Illinois, Barton College, and Washington & Jefferson College. Painter runs a motion offense. Painter's teams are also known for their "stout, stingy, defense" and their "overwhelming offense." Since taking the helm at Purdue, Painter's teams have consistently placed in the top 15 of offensive and defensive efficiency nationally. With Painter at the helm, Purdue teams have reached the NCAA Tournament 13 times, with six Sweet-Sixteen appearances, and 1 Elite Eight appearance. The Indiana–Purdue rivalry is a rivalry between the Indiana University Bloomington Hoosiers and the Purdue University Boilermakers, the two flagship public universities in the state of Indiana. 2007 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament
The 2007 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament involved 65 teams playing in a single-elimination tournament to determine the national champion of men's NCAA Division I college basketball as a culmination of the 2006–07 basketball season. Team selections were announced on March 11, 2007, and the tournament began on March 13, 2007, with the Opening round game and concluded with the championship game on April 2 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia. 2007 Big Ten Conference Men's Basketball Tournament
The 2007 Big Ten men's basketball tournament was played between March 8 and March 11, 2007 at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. It was the tenth annual Big Ten men's basketball tournament. The championship was won by Ohio State who defeated Wisconsin in the championship game. As a result, Ohio State received the Big Ten's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. The win marked Ohio State's second tournament championship (the prior championship has been vacated) in their fourth appearance. Seeds All Big Ten schools played in the tournament. Teams were seeded by conference record, with a tiebreaker system used to seed teams with identical conference records.
