2005 Detroit Lions Season
The 2005 season was the Detroit Lions' 76th in the National Football League (NFL) and their 82nd since moving to Detroit and becoming the Lions. The Lions failed to improve on their 6–10 record in 2004. The Lions began their 2005 season with a 17–3 win over the rival Packers. However, the next week, the Lions were throttled, 38–6, by the Bears in Chicago. By week 10, the Lions had a 4–5 record after they had defeated the Arizona Cardinals 29–21 at home. However, the Lions lost five consecutive games following that win, and were eliminated from the playoffs with a 16–13 overtime loss to the Packers. The Lions would win one more game for the rest of the season, which was a 13–12 win over the Saints. The season concluded with a 35–21 loss to the eventual Super Bowl champion Steelers. NFC North
The National Football Conference – Northern Division or NFC North is one of the four divisions of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the National Football League (NFL). Nicknamed the "Black and Blue Division" for the rough and tough rivalry games between the teams, it currently has four members: the Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, and Minnesota Vikings. The NFC North was previously known as the NFC Central from 1970 to 2001. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were previously members, from 1977, one year after they joined the league as an expansion team, until 2002 when they moved to the NFC South. The division was created in 1967 as the Central Division of the NFL's Western Conference and existed for three seasons before the AFL–NFL merger. Ted Tollner
Alfred Theodore Tollner (born May 29, 1940) is a former American football player and coach. He had served as the head coach at the University of Southern California (USC) from 1983 to 1986 and San Diego State University (SDSU) from 1994 to 2001, compiling an overall college football record of 69–68–1. Tollner also was an assistant coach in the National Football League (NFL) for 15 seasons, including stints as offensive coordinator for the San Diego Chargers, San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions. Playing career Tollner attended California Polytechnic State University, where he was a quarterback on the 1960 team that suffered a plane crash in Toledo, Ohio in which 22 people of the 45 people on board were killed, including 16 of Tollner's teammates. Phillip Snow (born December 22, 1955) is an American football coach who was last the defensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers of the National Football League. Early years Born in Woodland and raised in Winters, both in northern California, Snow attended Sacramento City College (1974–75) and Cal State Hayward (1977–78), where he received a bachelor's degree in physical education. George Catavolos
George Catavolos (born May 8, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois), is an American football coach. He was a three-year letterman at Purdue and was the Boilermakers' co-captain during the team's 1967 Rose Bowl Championship season; his last-second interception of an attempted two-point conversion locked up the victory for the Boilermakers. He began coaching at Purdue in 1967 and spent 17 years in college coaching. Johnny Ray Holland (born March 11, 1965) is an American gridiron football coach and former player. He is the linebackers coach for the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League (NFL). Holland played in the NFL as a linebacker for the Green Bay Packers from 1987 to 1993. Lawrence Lee Brooks Sr. (born June 10, 1950) is a former American football defensive tackle. Brooks was drafted in the 14th round of the 1972 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams after playing college football at Virginia State University. He was inducted into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame in 2000. He came to prominence as the offensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos from 2013 to 2014, whose offense set the NFL record for points scored in 2013 and helped the team reach Super Bowl XLVIII.
