The president of India ( IAST: ) is the head of state of the Republic of India. The president is the nominal head of the executive, the first citizen of the country, as well as the commander-in-chief of the Indian Armed Forces. Droupadi Murmu is the 15th and current president, having taken office from 25 July 2022. The office of president was created when India officially became a republic on 26 January 1950 after gaining independence on 15th August 1947, when its constitution came into force. The president is indirectly elected by an electoral college comprising both houses of the Parliament of India and the legislative assemblies of each of India's states and territories, who themselves are all directly elected by the citizens. Buta Singh
Buta Singh (21 March 1934 – 2 January 2021) was an Indian politician and a senior leader of the Indian National Congress. He was the Union Home Minister of India, Governor of Bihar and was chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes from 2007 to 2010. Early life Buta Singh was born on 21 March 1934 in Mazhabi Sikh family at Mustafapur, Jalandhar district, Punjab, British India. He was educated at Lyallpur Khalsa College in Jalandhar, from where he was awarded a B.A. (Hons), and at Guru Nanak Khalsa College in Bombay, where he earned a M.A. Singh then gained a Ph.D. from Bundelkhand University. He married Manjit Kaur in 1964; the couple had three children. He worked as journalist before entering politics. Balram Jakhar (23 August 1923 – 3 February 2016) was an Indian politician, who served as the Speaker of the Lok Sabha and Governor of Madhya Pradesh. He was also the longest serving Speaker of the Lok Sabha. Early life and education Jakhar was born in a Hindu Jat family in Panjkosi village of Fazilka district in Punjab now in Fazilka on 23 August 1923. His father was Chaudhari Rajaram Jakhar and his mother was Pattodevi Jakhar. Jakhar earned a degree in Sanskrit from Forman Christian College, Lahore, in 1945. He had knowledge of English, Punjabi, Urdu, Sanskrit and Hindi languages. Kailashpati Mishra (5 October 1923 – 3 November 2012) was an Indian politician. He was a leader of Jana Sangh, and later Bharatiya Janta Party. He was Finance Minister of Bihar in 1977. He was Governor of Gujarat from May 2003 to July 2004. Early life Kailashpati Mishra was born in Dudharchak, Buxar, Bihar, into a Bhumihar Brahmin family on 5 October 1923. He took part in the Quit India Movement in 1942 and was arrested for the same. He was a member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh from 1943, and was even jailed after the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi. While studying in class X, Mr. Mishra was arrested for picketing at the main gate of his school at Buxar in support of 1942 Quit India Movement. Mohammed Fazal
Mohammed Fazal (2 July 1922 – 4 September 2014) was an Indian politician who was the Governor of Maharashtra from 10 October 2002 to 5 December 2004. Born in a well-known ''zamindari'' (landlord) family, he studied at the Allahabad University and later at the London School of Economics at the University of London. In 1977 he was appointed the Secretary of Industrial Development, Government of India. He was the most senior member of the Planning Commission from April 1980 till his resignation in January 1985. He then founded and was the chairman of Hughes & Hughes Chem Ltd. In 1999, he was appointed the Governor of Goa, a post he held until he was appointed Governor of Maharashtra. Kidar Nath Sahani
Kidar Nath Sahani (24 October 1926 – 3 October 2012) was a governor of the Indian states of Sikkim (2001–02) and Goa (2002–04). He was a pracharak of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and a leader of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh and Bharatiya Janata Party. He lived in Delhi, though he was born in Rawalpindi, British India, having migrated here following the Partition. He worked for the rights and rehabilitation of the refugees and a leading political figure in Delhi of the right wing Jana Sangh party. He died at the age of 85 at Delhi. Sahani had served as Mayor of Delhi and Chief Executive of the Delhi Metropolitan Council.
