2004 WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship
The 2004 WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship was a golf tournament that was played from February 25–29, 2004 at La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, California. It was the sixth WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship and the first of four World Golf Championships events held in 2004. Tiger Woods won his eighth World Golf Championships event, and his second match play back-to-back, by defeating Davis Love III 3 and 2 in the 36 hole final. Brackets The Championship was a single elimination match play event. The field consisted of the top 64 players available from the Official World Golf Rankings, seeded according to the rankings. Ernie Els (ranked 3) withdrew from the event, electing to stay home because his daughter was to start school in London the next week. Carlsbad is a coastal city in the North County region of San Diego County, California, United States. The city is south of downtown Los Angeles and north of downtown San Diego. Shingo Katayama ( ja, 片山 晋呉, born 31 January 1973) is a Japanese golfer. Early life and professional career Katayama was born in Chikusei, Ibaraki Prefecture. Shaun Carl Micheel (born January 5, 1969) is an American professional golfer who is best known for his surprise victory at the 2003 PGA Championship. Career Micheel was born in Orlando, Florida. Paul Alexander Casey (born 21 July 1977) is an English golfer who is a member of LIV Golf. He has also played on the US-based PGA Tour and the European Tour. Toshimitsu Izawa
Toshimitsu Izawa ( ja, 伊沢利光, born 2 March 1968) is a Japanese professional golfer. He is sometimes known outside Japan as Toshi Izawa. Izawa was born in Kanagawa, attended Nihon Taiiku University, and turned professional in 1989. Izawa's career on the Japan Golf Tour developed quite slowly. His first win came in 1995, and he did not make the top ten on the money list until 1999, when he was thirty one years old. He went on to top the money list in 2001 and 2003. Scott Rachal Verplank (born July 9, 1964) is an American professional golfer, who has played on the PGA Tour and the PGA Tour Champions. Early years and amateur career Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Verplank was a leading member of the W.T. White High School golf team and a regular at Brookhaven Country Club in Dallas. He graduated from high school in 1982 and attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. Thomas Bjørn (born 18 February 1971) is a professional golfer from Denmark who plays on the European Tour. He is the most successful Danish golfer to have played the game having won fifteen tournaments worldwide on the European Tour. Fredrik Ulf Yngve Jacobson (born 26 September 1974) is a Swedish professional golfer who plays on the PGA Tour and formerly the European Tour.
