2004 Speedway World Cup Qualification
The 2004 Speedway World Cup Qualification (SWC) was a two events of motorcycle speedway meetings used to determine the two national teams who qualify for the 2004 Speedway World Cup. According to the FIM rules the top six nations (Sweden, Australia, Denmark, Poland, Great Britain and Czech Republic) from the 2003 Speedway World Cup were automatically qualified. Speedway World Cup
The Speedway World Cup is an annual motorcycle speedway, speedway event held each year in different countries. The first edition of the competition in the current format was held in 2001 and replaced the old Speedway World Team Cup, World Team Cup which ran from 1960 until 2000. The last edition was in 2017. From 2018, the World Cup was replaced by the Speedway of Nations, which effectively brought back the pairs format. However, in 2023 the World Cup will return. Format The final tournament usually lasted for about a week with four meetings held in six or seven days. It started with two first round "events", each consisting of four national teams. The winners of these events qualified automatically for the final, while those who finished second and third competed in the race-off. Last place finishers were eliminated. Kauko Tapio Nieminen (born 29 August 1979, in Seinäjoki) is a Finnish former speedway rider who raced for several teams in the UK, Sweden, and Poland, and as part of the Finland national speedway team. Career summary Nieminen started his United Kingdom career with the Workington Comets in 2002 and was with them every season until 2008 except for 2006, when he rode for the Glasgow Tigers. In 2004, he was part of the Workington four that won the Premier League Four-Team Championship, which was held on 21 August 2004, at the Derwent Park. In 2006, he represented Finland in the 2006 Speedway World Cup. Nieminen was known by both Workington and Glasgow fans as 'The Flyin Finn' because of his racing style, which produces some high speed passing. Tero Aarnio
Tero Kalevi Aarnio (born 17 April 1984) is a Finnish motorcycle speedway rider. Career Aarnio was a member of Finland team at 2007 Speedway World Cup. This led to his signing for Berwick Bandits for the 2008 and 2009 seasons. He then joined Scunthorpe Scorpions in 2010 and 2011 and Workington Comets in 2012 and 2013 He then spent the 2014 and 2015 seasons with Glasgow and Newcastle respectively, the 2016 season with Scunthorpe and returned to Newcastle in 2018. In 2019 he rode for Birmingham. After medalling six times at the Finnish Individual Speedway Championship he finally won the national title, when winning the 2020 Finnish Individual Speedway Championship to become champion of Finland.
