2004 Icelandic Men's Football League Cup
The 2004 Icelandic Men's Football League Cup was the ninth staging of the Icelandic Men's League Cup. It featured all the 2003 Úrvalsdeild karla teams and the top 6 teams from 1. deild karla in 2003. The competition started on 20 February 2004 and concluded on 8 May 2004 with FH beating KR 2-1 in the final. Details * The 16 teams were divided into 2 groups of 8 teams. Fimleikafélag Hafnarfjarðar ( en, Hafnarfjörður Gymnastics Club), commonly referred to as FH, is an Icelandic multi-sports club based in Hafnarfjörður. The club competes in football, handball, athletics, and fencing. It was founded in 1929 as a gymnastics club but soon started a handball department which became its flagship for several decades. Its men's football team has been a dominant power since the early 2000s. Football Men's football FH's men's football team has been a dominant power in Icelandic football since the early 2000s, winning several national championships. Women's football FH's women's football team won the first edition of the national championship in 1972. After losing the title to Ármann in 1973, FH won three successive titles in 1974, 1975 and 1976. Íþróttabandalag Vestmannaeyja (ÍBV) is an Icelandic multi-sports district association from Vestmannaeyjar off the south coast of Iceland. It was founded in 1903 as Fótboltafélag Vestmannaeyja by Björgúlfur Ólafsson, military doctor for the Dutch army. It was soon renamed to Knattspyrnufélag Vestmannaeyja (KV) and then to Íþróttabandalag Vestmannaeyja (ÍBV) héraðssamband in 1945. ÍBV played as KV in the first Icelandic first league tournament in 1912. There have been formed several association entities with the ÍBV name to manage various of sports. ÍBV-Íþróttafélag was founded in 1996 to manage football and handball when the youth team clubs Þór and Týr, that where subbrands to KV and then ÍBV for the youth coaching only, where merged. Bjarki Bergmann Gunnlaugsson (born 3 March 1973 in Akranes) is a retired Icelandic professional footballer who last played for FH. Club career After a period in English football at Preston North End FC, Bjarki joined up with his twin brother Arnar and they played together at KR Reykjavík when they came back home. The played with the team for several years, then joined their childhood club, ÍA Akranes, in 2006. They became the managers of the club, when the team manager, Ólafur Þórðarson, left the club because of a horrible start in the division. The brothers saved the club from relegation, but the chairman of the club hired manager Guðjón Þórðarson to control the club. Then the brothers left ÍA Akranes to join the Icelandic champions, FH Hafnarfjörður. Penalty Shootout (association Football)
A penalty shoot-out (officially kicks from the penalty mark) is a tie-breaking method in association football to determine which team is awarded victory in a match that cannot end in a draw, when the score is tied after the normal time as well as extra time (if used) have expired. In a penalty shoot-out, each team takes turns shooting at goal from the penalty mark, with the goal defended only by the opposing team's goalkeeper. Each team has five shots which must be taken by different kickers; the team that makes more successful kicks is declared the victor. Shoot-outs finish as soon as one team has an insurmountable lead. If scores are level after five pairs of shots, the shootout progresses into additional " sudden-death" rounds. Balls successfully kicked into the goal during a shoot-out do not count as goals for the individual kickers or the team, and are tallied separately from the goals scored during normal play (including extra time, if any). Dean Edward Martin (born 31 August 1972) is an English football coach and former player who coaches Selfoss. A midfielder, he spent much of his playing career in Iceland with KA and ÍA and also played in England, Hong Kong and the Republic of Ireland. He moved into coaching and management whilst still a player and has held senior and youth roles with club and international teams in Iceland.
