2004 French Open – Men's Singles
Gastón Gaudio defeated Guillermo Coria in the final, 0–6, 3–6, 6–4, 6–1, 8–6 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2004 French Open. Gaudio became the first Argentine to win a major since Guillermo Vilas at the 1979 Australian Open. Gaudio came back from two sets down, saved two championship points, and twice broke Coria's serve when the latter served for the championship. Juan Carlos Ferrero was the defending champion, but was defeated in the second round by Igor Andreev, in what was his first loss at the French Open prior to the semifinals. This was the first major where Roger Federer competed as the world No. 1. Gastón Gaudio
Gastón Norberto Gaudio (; born 9 December 1978) is an Argentine retired tennis player. He won eight singles titles and achieved a career-high ATP singles ranking of world No. 5 in April 2005. Gaudio's most significant title win came at the 2004 French Open, the last French Open before the Rafael Nadal era, when he defeated fellow Argentine Guillermo Coria in five sets in the final. Juan Ignacio Chela (; born 30 August 1979), nicknamed as “El Flaco” or “Liliano,” is a former professional tennis player from Argentina. Chela was given a three-month ban from the professional tour in 2001 for failing a drugs test. Carlos Moyá
Carlos Moyá Llompart (; born 27 August 1976) is a Spanish former world No. 1 tennis player. He was the French Open singles champion in 1998 and was the singles runner-up at the 1997 Australian Open. Nicolas Pierre Armand Mahut (; born 21 January 1982) is a French professional tennis player who is a former world No. 1 in doubles. He is a five-time Grand Slam champion in doubles, having completed the career Grand Slam with victories at the 2015 US Open, 2016 Wimbledon Championships, 2018 French Open, and 2019 Australian Open, all partnering Pierre-Hugues Herbert.
