Season summary After several seasons in midtable, Die Löwen's 10-season stay in Germany's top flight ended with a 17th-place finish and relegation. Manager Falko Götz had been sacked in April, with former 1860 player Gerald Vanenburg juggling his duties as manager of PSV's youth team to replace him, but he was unable to save the club from the drop. After relegation, Rudolf Bommer, who had led fellow Bavarian club SV Wacker Burghausen to promotion to the 2. Bundesliga and consecutive 10th-place finishes in that division, was tasked with obtaining promotion. , commonly known as TSV 1860 München (; lettered as ) or 1860 Munich, is a sports club based in Munich. The club's football team currently plays in the 3. Liga, the third tier of German football. 1860 Munich was one of the founding members of the Bundesliga in 1963, becoming West German champions in 1966, and played a total of 20 seasons in the top flight. History Origins of the club The roots of the TSV's founding as a physical fitness and gymnastics association go back to a meeting held 15 July 1848 in a local pub, Buttlesche Brauerei zum Bayerischen Löwen. Janne Saarinen
Janne Johannes Saarinen (born 28 February 1977, in Espoo) is a retired Finnish footballer. Career Saarinen started his career as a promising attacking midfielder at HJK Helsinki, making his Veikkausliiga debut in 1993. In 1997, he moved to Swedish giants IFK Göteborg, but never made a breakthrough – partly because of injuries. After two years he returned to HJK, where he was converted to a left back by the then coach Jyrki Heliskoski. He impressed in his new position, earning a move to Norwegian giants Rosenborg in 2001. In 2003, Saarinen moved to 1860 Munich of the German Bundesliga, but he was not successful there, and moved to Danish giants FC København in 2004. Saarinen returned to Finland with home-town club FC Honka for the 2006 season, stating he wanted to play in a more attacking role once more. Markus Schroth
Markus Schroth (born 25 January 1975) is a German former professional footballer who played as a centre-forward. Club career Schroth started to play football at the TSV Reichenbach, nearby Waldbronn, whence moving to Karlsruher SC at the age of 15. He started his professional career in 1994–95, and made his first division debut as a second-half substitute in the club's 0–1 loss at Eintracht Frankfurt, on 7 October 1994. It was his sole appearance of the campaign, and he amassed only four more in the following season, although he netted in another away fixture, a 3–0 success against SC Freiburg, on 13 April 1996. Schroth eventually became a regular for KSC, making his UEFA Cup debut in a 0–1 loss at FC Rapid Bucharest (one minute played), and appearing in all the matches during 1997–98, scoring six goals, as Karlsruhe was eventually relegated. Markus Weissenberger
Markus Weissenberger (born 8 March 1975) is an Austrian former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. He is a younger brother of former Austria international player Thomas Weissenberger. Club career Weissenberger played for Eintracht Frankfurt, TSV 1860 Munich, Arminia Bielefeld, LASK. In the Eintracht squad he was, in the attacking midfield, often only a backup for Alexander Meier and predominantly gets few short time appearances. Matthias Lehmann (born 28 May 1983) is a German former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Career SSV Ulm Born in Ulm, Lehmann started his career with SSV Ulm 1846 in the 2000–01 season. Paul Agostino
Paul Agostino (born 9 June 1975) is an Australian former professional footballer who played as a forward. He played the majority of his club football outside Australia, most notably with 1860 Munich in Germany for ten years. He played 18 times for Australia, winning the OFC Nations Cup of the year 2000. Harald Cerny (; born 13 September 1973) is an Austrian former professional footballer who played as a right midfielder. He played mostly for TSV 1860 Munich. Club career After coming through the youth ranks at Admira Wacker, Cerny began his professional career at German club FC Bayern Munich in 1992–93, making his top division debut on 27 October 1992, in a 1–1 draw at Eintracht Frankfurt. Just after the start of the 1993–94 season (he appeared in three matches for the eventual champions), Cerny returned to Admira, where a good league season prompted a move to FC Tirol.
