2003–04 Mid-American Conference Men's Basketball Season
The 2003–04 Mid-American Conference men's basketball season began with practices in October 2003, followed by the start of the 2003–04 NCAA Division I men's basketball season in November. Conference play began in January 2004 and concluded in March 2004. Western Michigan won the regular season title with a conference record of 15–3 by two games over second-place Kent State. Western Michigan defeated Kent State in the MAC tournament final and represented the MAC in the NCAA tournament. There they lost in the first round to Vanderbilt. Preseason awards The preseason poll was announced by the league office on October 23, 2003. The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is a nonprofit organization that regulates student athletics among about 1,100 schools in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. It also organizes the athletic programs of colleges and universities in the United States and Canada and helps over 500,000 college student athletes who compete annually in college sports. The organization is headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana. Until 1957, the NCAA was a single division for all schools. That year, the NCAA split into the University Division and the College Division. In August 1973, the current three-division system of Division I, Division II, and Division III was adopted by the NCAA membership in a special convention. Reggie Witherspoon (basketball)
Phillip Reginald Witherspoon (born February 21, 1961) is the head coach of the Canisius College men's basketball team and the former head coach of the University at Buffalo men's college basketball team. Witherspoon played college basketball at Erie Community College under John Beilein and then at Wheeling Jesuit under Jim O'Brien. He was the head coach at Erie Community College, and head coach and assistant coach at Sweet Home High School before he was hired as the interim head coach at Buffalo in December 1999. Witherspoon was named full-time head coach on March 10, 2000. He was the first African American named head coach of a varsity sports team in any Western New York suburban school district. Yassin Idbihi
Yassin Markus Idbihi (born July 24, 1983) is a former Moroccan-German professional basketball player. Idbihi spent the majority of his career in Germany and played one season in France for Limoges CSP. Professional career He made his professional debut with Dragons Rhöndorf. He then played college basketball at the Buffalo Bulls men's basketball, University at Buffalo. After that he returned to Germany and first played for Köln 99ers, then one season in French LNB Pro B, Pro B with Limoges CSP and later for Phantoms Braunschweig and Alba Berlin. DeAndre Haynes
DeAndre Lamount Haynes (born March 30, 1984) is an assistant basketball coach under Coach Shaka Smart at Marquette University. He is a former American basketball player and former assistant coach at the University of Maryland. Haynes, a 6'2" point guard from Detroit, Michigan, came to Kent State from Southwestern High School in Detroit. Playing for the Golden Flashes from 2002 to 2006, Haynes scored 1,259 points and left as the school's all-time leader in assists (625) and steals (229). In his senior season of 2005–06, Haynes averaged 13 points per game and was named Mid-American Conference Player of the Year and an honorable mention All-American by the Associated Press. Cameron Echols
Cameron Gabriel Echols (born January 22, 1981) is an American retired basketball player. The Chicago, Illinois native has a Dutch citizenship. Standing at 6 ft 8 in (2.03 m), Echols usually played as power forward. In October 2019 Echols was arrested for domestic battery in Muncie, Indiana. Professional career Echols first professional stop was with KR of the Icelandic Úrvalsdeild karla in October 2004. College career Lewis finished his collegiate career having scored 1,560 points, collected 497 rebounds, and dished out 248 assists. John Edwards (basketball)
John Edwards (born July 31, 1981) is an American former professional basketball player. He played the center position. Edwards played collegiately for Kent State University. While at Kent State, Edwards was part of two of the Golden Flashes trips to the NCAA tournament which included their appearance in the 2002 Elite Eight. He was named Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Year and a first-team all-conference pick in his final season and holds the Kent State record for season and career blocked shots. He was invited to the Indiana Pacers training camp in 2004. Justin Durel Ingram (born January 21, 1985) is an American former professional basketball player who is currently an assistant coach for the Toledo Rockets men's basketball team. He most recently served as the Assistant Head Coach for the Olivet Comets men's basketball team.
