Italian Television
Television in Italy was introduced in 1939, when the first experimental broadcasts began. However, this lasted for a very short time: when fascist Italy entered World War II in 1940 all transmissions were interrupted, and were resumed in earnest only nine years after the end of the conflict, on January 3, 1954. There are two main national television organisations responsible for most viewing: state-owned RAI, accounting for 37% of the total viewing figures in May 2014, and Mediaset, a commercial network which holds about 33%. The third largest player, the Italian branch of Warner Bros. Discovery, had a viewing share of 5.8%. Apart from these three free to air companies, Comcast's satellite pay TV platform Sky Italia is increasing in viewing and shares. According to the BBC, the Italian television industry is widely considered both inside and outside the country to be overtly politicized. Marco Tullio Giordana
Marco Tullio Giordana (born 1 October 1950) is an Italian Film director, director and screenwriter. Biography Born in Milan, during the 1970s he approaches the cinema by collaborating on the screenplay of Roberto Faenza's 1977 documentary ''Forza Italia!'', while his debut behind the camera comes two years later, in 1979 with the feature film To Love the Damned, presented at the 1979 Cannes Film Festival and winner of the Golden Leopard at the Locarno Film Festival. In 1981, he made an ambitious project, ''The Fall of the Rebel Angels (film), The Fall of the Rebel Angels'', presented at the 38th Venice International Film Festival. In 1996 he participated with other directors, Gianni Amelio, Marco Risi, Alessandro D'Alatri and Mario Martone in the RAI and UNICEF project ''Beyond childhood - Five directors for UNICEF''. Alberto Sordi
Alberto Sordi (15 June 1920 – 24 February 2003) was an Italian actor, voice actor, singer, comedian, director and screenwriter. Early life Born in Rome to a schoolteacher and a musician and the last of five children, Sordi was named in honour of an older sibling, who died several days after his birth. Sordi enrolled in Milan's dramatic arts academy but was kicked out because of his thick Roman accent. In the meantime, he studied to be a bass opera singer. His vocal distinctiveness would become his trademark. Career Cinema and television In a career that spanned seven decades, Sordi established himself as an icon of Italian cinema with his representative skills at both comedy and light drama. ''The Best of Youth'' ( it, La meglio gioventù) is a 2003 Italian historical drama film directed by Marco Tullio Giordana and written by Sandro Petraglia and Stefano Rulli. A family saga set in Italy from 1966 through 2003, it chronicles the life of the middle-class Carati family, focusing primarily on brothers Nicola (Luigi Lo Cascio) and Matteo (Alessio Boni) as their life paths separate during youth, encompassing major political and social events in post–World War II Italian history. Originally conceived as a Rai television miniseries, it premiered at the 2003 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Prize Un Certain Regard. It was then given a theatrical release in Italy as two 3-hour films (titled ''Act I'' and ''Act II''), before being aired with broader success on Rai 1 in a slightly longer four-episode television version later that year. ''Grande Fratello 3'' is the third season of the Italian version of the reality show franchise ''Big Brother''. The show began on 30 January 2003 and concluded on 8 May 2003. Barbara D'Urso as the main host of the show for the first time. Production It marked a turning point in the way the show was produced when compared to previous seasons. House The size of the house was increased to almost and was made almost entirely of glass. Nomination This year the nominations process was changed. Unlike previous years, this year the Housemates would each week nominate three of their fellow Housemates for eviction rather than two as in previous years. Italia 1 (Italian pronunciation ) is an Italian free-to-air television channel on the Mediaset network, owned by MFE - MediaForEurope. It is oriented at both young and adult people.
