2003 Stevenage Borough Council Election
Elections to Stevenage Council in Hertfordshire, England were held on 1 May 2003. One third of the council was up for election; the seats of the candidates who finished first in each ward in the all-out election of 1999. The Labour Party stayed in overall control of the council, as had been predicted before the election. Overall turnout was 52.2%. Stevenage Borough Council
Stevenage Borough Council is the local authority for the Stevenage non-metropolitan district of England, the United Kingdom. Stevenage is located in the north-east of Hertfordshire, in the East of England region. The Council consists of 39 elected members, representing thirteen electoral wards; each of the wards elects three councillors. Youth representatives from Stevenage Youth Council and the elected Stevenage Youth Mayor also attend Stevenage Borough Council meetings in a non-voting role. The Council is currently controlled by the Labour Party, who hold 24 of the 39 seats. Labour have controlled the council continuously since its creation as a non-metropolitan district in 1973. The Conservative Group hold 9 seats and the Liberal Democrat Group hold 6 seats and there is 1 Independent (ex-Labour). Shephall Ward In Stevenage 1999
Shephall () is part of the town of Stevenage in Hertfordshire. It was formerly a separate village and parish, being absorbed into Stevenage in 1953. Shephall was an ancient parish in the hundred of Cashio. It appears in the Domesday Book of 1086, when it was owned partly by St Albans Abbey and partly by the Archbishop of Canterbury. It was described as having eleven households of villagers, two households of cottagers and one slave. The village was clustered around Shephall Green. The parish church of St Mary, on the east side of the green, was built in the 14th century. The parish of Shephall was included in the Hitchin Poor Law Union from 1835. It therefore became part of the Hitchin Rural Sanitary District in 1872, which in turn became the Hitchin Rural District in 1894. In 1946 Shephall was included in the designated area for the new town of Stevenage. Longmeadow is a town in Hampden County, Massachusetts, in the United States. The population was 15,853 at the 2020 census. History Longmeadow was first settled in 1644, and officially incorporated October 17, 1783. The town was originally farmland within the limits of Springfield. It remained relatively pastoral until the street railway was built , when the population tripled over a fifteen-year period. After Interstate 91 was built in the wetlands on the west side of town, population tripled again between 1960 and 1975. During the 19th and early 20th centuries, Longmeadow was best known as the site from which Longmeadow brownstone was mined. Several famous American buildings, including Princeton University's Neo-Gothic library, are made of Longmeadow brownstone.
