2003 Prince Edward Island General Election
The 2003 Prince Edward Island general election was held on September 29, 2003 to elect the 27 members of the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island. The election was called on September 2 by Premier Pat Binns, who enjoyed a high level of popularity among voters. Polling took place on September 29, despite a blackout across two-thirds of the province and other damage caused by Hurricane Juan. Binns' Progressive Conservatives were elected to a third consecutive majority government, the first time this had happened in Island history (for the PC party). The Premier, who ran in Murray River-Gaspereaux, was re-elected, along with his entire existing cabinet. The Liberals wrested three seats from the Tories, increasing their standing to four seats. The party's new leader, Robert Ghiz, was one of those. The son of former premier Joe Ghiz beat Charlottetown mayor George MacDonald in the riding of Charlottetown-Rochford Square in Charlottetown. Legislative Assembly Of Prince Edward Island
The Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island (french: Assemblée législative de l'Île-du-Prince-Édouard) is the sole chamber of the General Assembly of Prince Edward Island. The Legislative Assembly meets at Province House, which is located at the intersection of Richmond and Great George Streets in Charlottetown. Bills passed by the Assembly are given royal assent by the King of Canada in Right of Prince Edward Island, represented by the Lieutenant-Governor of Prince Edward Island. Gary Robichaud
Gary Robichaud (September 13, 1962 – September 8, 2005) was a Canadian teacher and politician, and leader of the Island New Democrats political party in the province of Prince Edward Island. Robichaud was born in Saint John, New Brunswick. He spent his childhood on Prince Edward Island, attending Evangeline Regional High School and then the University of Prince Edward Island. Robichaud began teaching in rural Manitoba, where he met his wife, Jacqueline. His daughter, Julia was born in 2001. In 1995, he moved back to Prince Edward Island to become a high-school teacher in Summerside. For many years, he taught at Three Oaks Senior High School, during which time he helmed Canada's only intramural Reach for the Top league. Robert Mitchell (born 13 May 1963) is a Canadian politician. Mitchell was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island in the 2007 provincial election. Elmer MacFadyen
Elmer Eric MacFadyen (January 9, 1943 – August 17, 2007) was a Canadian politician. He represented Sherwood-Hillsborough in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 1996 to 2007 as a Progressive Conservative member. MacFadyen was born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, the son of Donald & Annie MacFadyen. He married Judy McAlduff in 1968. David McKenna (politician)
David Terence McKenna (24 January 1957 – 19 March 2014) was a Canadian optometrist, businessman and politician. He represented the electoral district of Glen Stewart-Bellevue Cove in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 2003 to 2007. He was a Progressive Conservative. A resident of Stratford, Prince Edward Island, McKenna attended the University of Prince Edward Island, and graduated from the optometry program at the University of Waterloo. He owned and operated Family Vision Centre in Charlottetown for 32 years. He entered provincial politics in the 2003 election, winning the Glen Stewart-Bellevue Cove riding. In the 2007 election, he lost to Liberal Cynthia Dunsford by 81 votes in the renamed Stratford-Kinlock riding. Ronald William "Ronnie" MacKinley (born August 24, 1947) is a Prince Edward Island Liberal politician, and former member of the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island. Early life Born in Charlottetown, MacKinley is the son of John McKinley and Mildred Sellar. He was raised on the family farm in the rural community of North River which was amalgamated into the town of Cornwall in 1996. Before running for office, MacKinley worked as a farmer in North River.
