2003 Players' Championship
The 2003 Pharmassist Players' Championship was held February 8–23 at the Black Gold Centre in Leduc, Alberta. It was the final Grand Slam event of the 2002-03 World Curling Tour. The total purse for the event was $150,000 with $50,000 going to the winning team, which would be Jeff Stoughton's Winnipeg rink. He defeated John Morris' Stayner, Ontario rink in the final. The event format was a triple knock out followed by an 8-team playoff. The event was televised on Rogers Sportsnet. Players' Championships
The Players' Championship is one of the final events on the World Curling Tour (WCT) and is a part of the Grand Slam of Curling. From 2016 to 2019, it was the penultimate slam of the curling season, and the last of the four "majors". The event was one of the original Grand Slam events when they were instituted in the 2001–02 season for men and for the 2006–07 season for women. History The event began as the "VO Cup" before the Grand Slam era in 1993, as part of the very first World Curling Tour season. The event was known as the VO Cup for two seasons before title sponsor Seagram's Distillery pulled out. With no sponsor, the 1995 event was saved at the last minute, and continued the next season thanks to a TV deal with TSN. A women's event was introduced in 2006. Dale Duguid
Dale Duguid is an Australian visual effects supervisor and production designer who is credited on multiple films and TV series. After a career spanning production design, art direction, directing AND screenwriting, DUGUID established a viable visual effects industry for long form production within Australia through the creation of the Visual Effects design and production company Photon Stockman in 1991. Duguid was recognised with a medal from Queen Elizabeth II for having been a prime mover for the VFX industry in Australia. According to one report: "He was awarded the Australian Centenary Medal in the 2001 Queen's New Years Honours List for his services to the Queensland film industry." Wayne Middaugh
Robert Wayne Middaugh (born September 20, 1967) is a Canadian curler. Born in Brampton, Ontario, Middaugh resides in Victoria Harbour, Ontario. He is the only player to have won the Canadian Men's Curling Championship (known as the Brier) at three different positions: skip (1998), third (2012), and second (1993). He was inducted into the Canadian Curling Hall of Fame in 2020. He currently coaches the Anna Hasselborg rink from Sweden. Career Middaugh is a three-time world champion, once as second for Russ Howard in 1993, as a skip in 1998, and as third for Glenn Howard in 2012. He has competed in ten Briers — in 1991, 1992, 1993, and 1994 as Russ Howard's second, in 1998, 2001, 2005 and 2021 as a skip, and in 2012 and 2013 as third on the Glenn Howard rink — winning the title in 1993, 1998 and 2012. Greg McAulay
Gregory McAulay (born January 2, 1960) is a Canadian World champion curler from Richmond, British Columbia. Career McAulay has been to only two Briers in his career. At the 1998 Labatt Brier, he skipped his British Columbia team to a 7-4 finish before losing to Saskatchewan (skipped by Rod Montgomery) in a tie-breaker. Two years later, McAulay was back at the Brier. In the 2000 Labatt Brier, his team of himself, Brent Pierce, Bryan Miki and Jody Sveistrup finished with an impressive 9-2 record to finish in first place after the round robin. In the playoffs, he defeated Russ Howard's New Brunswick rink twice to capture his first and only Brier title. Kevin Martin (curler)
Kevin Martin (born July 31, 1966), nicknamed "The Old Bear" and "K-Mart", is a Canadian retired curler from Edmonton, Alberta, an Olympic, World and four-time Canadian champion and a member of the World Curling Hall of Fame. He is considered by many commentators and former and current curlers to be the greatest curler of all time. William Lyburn
William Lyburn (born May 8, 1975 in Dumfries, Scotland) is a Scottish-Canadian curler from Winnipeg, Manitoba. Career Lyburn won the Scottish junior title with his older brother Allan Lyburn in 1992 and going to the 1992 World Junior Championships where they would finish 6th. He and his family would move to Canada a short time later. He then went on to assist his brother again, this time when he was the 5th for the Rob Fowler team at the 2012 Tim Hortons Brier where his brother was playing third. Allan Lyburn
Allan Lyburn (born January 6, 1972) is a Scottish-Canadian curler from Brandon, Manitoba. He does not curl competitively anymore. Career Prior to competing in Canada, Lyburn previously won the Scottish junior title with his brother William Lyburn in 1992. Lyburn skipped the Scottish rink at the 1992 World Junior Curling Championships, where they finished 6th. He and his family would move to Canada a short time later. Bruce Korte
Bruce Korte (born July 22, 1967 in Muenster, Saskatchewan) is a Canadian curler from Saskatoon. He is a three-time SaskTel Tankard provincial champion. As a junior, Korte's top accomplishment was losing the 1984 men's provincial junior final. Korte has won three provincial championships, in 2000, 2004 and 2010. At the 2000 Labatt Brier, Korte's Saskatchewan rink finished 5-6. In 2004, Korte downed Brad Heidt in the Saskatchewan final. At the 2004 Nokia Brier, his rink finished 5-6 once again. At the 2010 Tim Hortons Brier, he played third for his long-time third Darrell McKee and the team finished the event with a 4-7 record. Kevin Koe
Kevin Koe ( ; born January 11, 1975) is a Canadian curler. Koe is a two-time World champion and four-time Canadian champion. He was the skip of the Canadian men's team at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang. Originally from Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, he now resides in Calgary, Alberta and curls out of The Glencoe Club. He learned to curl at the age of six in Inuvik, Northwest Territories. Jamie King (curler)
Jamie King (born November 21, 1973 in Edmonton, Alberta) is a Canadian curler. King was the alternate for the Kevin Koe rink in 2010, where he won 2010 Tim Hortons Brier and 2010 Capital One World Men's Curling Championship. King played in just two games at the World Championships, against Denmark and Japan. For much of that season, King skipped his own Edmonton-based rink. Following the season, King joined the Warren Hassall rink as third, and then skipped the rink the following season. Glenn Howard
Glenn William Howard (born July 17, 1962) is a Canadian curler who is one of the most decorated curlers of all time. He has won four world championships, four Briers and 17 Ontario provincial championships, including a record eight straight, from 2006 to 2013. Through 2017, he has played in 218 games at the Brier, more than any other curler in history. He has also won the 2001 TSN Skins Game. Career Juniors Howard lost two straight Ontario Junior Championship finals in 1980 and 1981, skipping a rink out of Midland, Ontario.
