2002 NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse Championship
The 2002 NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse Championship was the 21st annual single-elimination tournament to determine the national champion of Division I NCAA women's college lacrosse. The championship game was played at Diane Geppi-Aikens Field in Baltimore, Maryland during May 2002. All NCAA Division I women's lacrosse programs were eligible for this championship. A total of 16 teams were invited to participate. Princeton defeated Georgetown, 12–7, to win their second national championship. This was the first time since 1994 (also won by Princeton) that Maryland did not win the national title. The leading scorer for the tournament was Lauren Simone from Princeton (23 goals). Simone was also named the tournament's ''Most Outstanding Player''. Patriot League
The Patriot League is a collegiate athletic conference comprising private institutions of higher education and two United States service academies based in the Northeastern United States. Outside the Ivy League, it is among the most selective groups of higher education institutions in the NCAA, and has a very high student-athlete graduation rate for both the NCAA graduation success rate and the federal graduation rate. Atlantic 10 Conference
The Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10) is a collegiate athletic conference whose schools compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's (NCAA) Division I. The A-10's member schools are located in states mostly on the United States Eastern Seaboard, as well as some in the Midwest: Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, Ohio, Illinois, and Missouri as well as in the District of Columbia. Although some of its members are state-funded, half of its membership is made up of private, Catholic institutions. Temple Owls
The Temple Owls are the athletic teams that represent Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The current athletic director is Arthur Johnson. The Princeton Tigers are the athletic teams of Princeton University. The school sponsors 35 varsity teams in 20 sports. American Lacrosse Conference
The American Lacrosse Conference (ALC) was a women's lacrosse-only college athletic conference whose members competed at the Division I level of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). All of the ALC's members throughout its history were located in the eastern half of the United States. The conference was founded in 2001 in advance of the 2002 NCAA lacrosse season with seven members; nine schools were members at one time or another during its history. Colonial Athletic Association
The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) is a collegiate athletic conference affiliated with the NCAA's Division I whose full members are located in East Coast states from Massachusetts to South Carolina. Most of its members are public universities, and the conference is headquartered in Richmond.
