The Florida Marlins' 2002 season was the tenth season for the Major League Baseball (MLB) franchise in the National League. It would begin with the team attempting to improve on their season from 2001. Their manager was Jeff Torborg. They played home games at Pro Player Stadium. National League East
The National League East is one of Major League Baseball's six divisions. Along with the American League Central it is one of two divisions to have every member win at least one World Series title. The division was created when the National League (along with the American League) added two expansion teams and divided into two divisions, East and West effective for the 1969 season. The National League's geographical alignment was rather peculiar as its partitioning was really more north and south instead of east and west. Two teams in the Eastern Time Zone, the Atlanta Braves and the Cincinnati Reds, were in the same division as teams on the Pacific coast. Interleague Play
Interleague play in Major League Baseball refers to regular-season baseball games played between an American League (AL) team and a National League (NL) team. Interleague play was first introduced during the 1997 Major League Baseball season. Prior to that, matchups between AL teams and NL teams occurred only during spring training, the All-Star Game, other exhibition games (such as the Hall of Fame Game in Cooperstown, New York), and the World Series. Vladimir Núñez Zarabaza (born March 15, 1975) is a Cuban former Major League Baseball relief pitcher. He is currently the pitching coach for the Gulf Coast League Braves of the Gulf Coast League. He played for the Arizona Diamondbacks, Florida Marlins, Colorado Rockies, and Atlanta Braves. Professional career Atlanta Braves On July 7, , the Atlanta Braves purchased Núñez's contract from Triple-A Richmond after pitchers Manny Acosta and Jeff Bennett were placed on the disabled list. He made his Braves debut and first major league appearance since that night against the Los Angeles Dodgers, tossing a scoreless eighth inning with one strikeout. Blaine Neal
Blaine Neal (born April 6, 1978) is an American former professional baseball relief pitcher. Neal played with the Florida Marlins (–), San Diego Padres (), Boston Red Sox (), and Colorado Rockies (2005) of Major League Baseball (MLB). He bats left-handed and throws right-handed. Life and career Neal was born in Marlton, New Jersey and grew up in Haddon Heights, New Jersey. He attended St. Rose of Lima school in Haddon Heights New Jersey. He attended Bishop Eustace Preparatory School in Pennsauken, New Jersey and graduated in 1996. Oswaldo Antonio Mairena (born July 30, 1975 in Chinandega, Nicaragua) is a former Major League Baseball relief pitcher for the Chicago Cubs and Florida Marlins. Biography Mairena represented Nicaragua at the 1995 Pan American Games and the 1996 Summer Olympics. Immediately after his performance in the Olympics, he was signed by the New York Yankees as an amateur free agent. He began pitching in the Yankees organization in 1997 with the Greensboro Bats. He was promoted in 1998 to the Tampa Yankees, and promoted again to the Norwich Navigators in 1999, where he finished the season with a 4–3 win–loss record and a 2.67 earned run average (ERA) in 43 games. Braden LaVerne Looper (born October 28, 1974) is an American former Major League Baseball pitcher who played for several teams between 1998 and 2009. High school Looper was a scholar athlete while a student at Mangum High School in Mangum, Oklahoma. He graduated in 1993 with four letters each in baseball and basketball, and two in football, while also a member of the National Honor Society. College and Olympics Looper focused on baseball while attending Wichita State, and was inducted into their sports Hall of Fame in 2003. Gary Everett Knotts (born February 12, 1977) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He attended Northwest Shoals Community College and was selected by the Florida Marlins in the eleventh round of the 1995 Major League Baseball draft.
