2002 FINA Men's Water Polo World Cup
The 2002 FINA Men's Water Polo World Cup was the twelfth edition of the event, organised by the world's governing body in aquatics, the International Swimming Federation (FINA). The event took place in the Tašmajdan Swimming Pool in Belgrade, Yugoslavia from August 20 to August 25, 2002. Participating teams were the eight best teams from the last World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan (2001). The FINA Cup in Belgrade decided which teams qualified directly to the 2003 World Aquatics Championships in Barcelona, Spain from July 13 to July 27, 2003. Russia and Hungary, as well as the host Spain, already qualified based on the results from the 2002 FINA Men's Water Polo World League (June 28 – August 4, 2002). FINA Water Polo World Cup
The FINA Men's Water Polo World Cup is an international water polo tournament, organized by FINA and featuring eight men's national teams. It was established in 1979, initially taking place on odd years. Since 2002 it is held every four years, in the even-year between Olympics. From 2023 on, the tournament will be replacing the FINA Water Polo World League. Theodoros "Thodoris" Kalakonas (born 28 October 1974) is a Greek water polo player who competed in the 1996 Summer Olympics (6th place), and in the 2004 Summer Olympics (4th place) with the Greece men's national water polo team. He was part of the national squad that won the silver medal at the 1997 World Cup in Athens and the Bronze Medal in the 2004 World League in Long Beach. Nikolaos "Nikos" Deligiannis ( gr, Νικόλαος Δεληγιάννης, born 3 September 1976 in Athens) is a Greek former water polo player who competed in the 2000 Summer Olympics (10th place), the 2004 Summer Olympics (4th place), the 2008 Summer Olympics (7th place) and the 2012 Summer Olympics (9th place) with the Greece men's national water polo team. Theodoros "Thodoris" Chatzitheodorou ( el, Θεόδωρος Χατζηθεοδώρου , born 1 October 1976) is a retired Greek water polo player and current coach. Christos Afroudakis
Christos Afroudakis (born 23 May 1984) is a Greek water polo player who competed in the 2004 Summer Olympics, the 2008 Summer Olympics, and the 2012 Summer Olympics. He was the captain of the team that competed for Greece at the 2016 Summer Olympics. They finished in 6th place. His brother Georgios also competed for Greece at the Olympic level in water polo. Veselin Đuho
Veselin Đuho (born 5 January 1960) is a Croatian professional water polo coach and former player who was a two-time Olympic gold medalist for Yugoslavia at the 1984 and 1988 Summer Olympics. Đuho was born in Foča but moved to Dubrovnik as a child, where he started swimming in 1968, and joined VK Jug in 1974. He spent most of his career in Jug, winning with them five Yugoslav league titles, two Yugoslav cup titles, and the LEN Champions League in 1981. Playing for the Yugoslavia national team, Đuho won the gold medal at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles and at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, as well as the gold medal at the 1986 World Championship in Madrid, the gold medal at the 1987 World Cup, and silver medals at the 1985 European Championship in Sofia and the 1987 European Championship in Strasbourg.
