The final was played at the Stadionul Național in Bucharest on 5 June 2002 and was contested between Divizia A sides Rapid București and Dinamo București. The cup was won by Rapid. 2001–02 Cupa României
The 2001–02 Cupa României was the 64th edition of Romania's most prestigious football cup competition. The title was won by Rapid București against Dinamo București. Format The competition is an annual knockout tournament. First round proper matches are played on the ground of the lowest ranked team, then from the second round proper the matches are played on a neutral location. If a match is drawn after 90 minutes, the game goes into extra time, where it works golden goal rule. If the match is still tied, the result is decided by penalty kicks. In the semi-finals, each tie is played as a two legs. From the first edition, the teams from Divizia A entered in competition in sixteen finals, rule which remained till today. FC Brașov (1936)
Fotbal Club Brașov (), commonly known as FC Brașov, or simply as Brașov, was a Romanian professional football club based in the city of Brașov, Brașov County, founded in 1936 and dissolved in 2017. Originally founded as ''Uzinele Astra Brașov'', the team amassed 41 seasons in the top flight of Romania. Nicolae "Nae" Stanciu (born 13 November 1973) is a former Romanian professional footballer who played as a defender. He spent most of his career with Rapid București, which he captained, and had two brief spells with Anzhi Makhachkala and FC Oradea before retiring in 2004. Vasile Maftei
Vasile Maftei (born 1 January 1981) is a Romanian retired footballer who played as a defender. He was best known for his leadership qualities, becoming captain for Rapid București, Unirea Urziceni, Concordia Chiajna and Voluntari. Although primarily a central defender, when needed he operated as a right back. Maftei was formed at Rapid București, where he became a key part of the team, winning one league title in 2003, one Romanian Cup and one Super Cup in 2002. In 2004, following the departure of Adrian Iencsi, he was appointed captain and won two Romanian Cups in a row in 2006 and 2007 and one Super Cup in 2007. He also reached the UEFA Cup quarter-finals with Rapid in 2006, where they were eliminated by Steaua București. The team captain of an association football team, sometimes known as the skipper, is a team member chosen to be the on-pitch leader of the team; they are often one of the older or more experienced members of the squad, or a player that can heavily influence a game or has good leadership qualities. Adrian Iencsi
Adrian Mihai Iencsi (born 15 March 1975 in Piatra Neamț) is a Romanian former football player and currently a manager. As a footballer, he enjoyed spells at Ceahlăul Piatra Neamţ, Rapid București, Spartak Moscow, Apollon Limassol and Kapfenberger SV. Iencsi has won two Romanian championship titles with Rapid București in 1999 and 2003. In 2009 Adrian Iencsi signed a contract with Rapid București as a second coach and player. On 18 April 2009 the former assistant coach managed the team on a temporary basis until a replacement to Rada was found. He ended his career at FCM Târgu Mureș. His first head coach job was at Liga IV team CS Corbeanca. Then he signed after some weeks with her rival ACS Popesti Leordeni. He finished second in the championship. Bogdan Stelea
Bogdan Gheorghe Stelea (; born 5 December 1967) is a Romanian retired footballer who played as a goalkeeper, and a current coach. Having played professionally into his 40s, he played for all three major Liga I clubs in his country's capital, and also spent a vast part of his career in Spain, mainly with Salamanca, also Stelea played nearly 100 times for Romania, and represented the nation in three World Cups and two European Championships. Stadionul Național (; "The National Stadium") was a multi-purpose stadium in Bucharest, Romania. The stadium held 60,120 people. History It was built in 1953, for the 4th World Festival of Youth and Students. According to the book ''București'' published in 1968 by Institutul Proiect București, ''Complexul Sportiv August 23'' was designed by the well known architect Vily Juster. It was first known as Stadionul August 23, and later on as Stadionul Național. The sports complex that included Național Stadium, is named Lia Manoliu (1932–1998) after the famous Romanian athlete. Ionel Daniel Dănciulescu (born 6 December 1976) is a Romanian former professional association football, footballer who played as a forward (association football), forward. He holds the all-time record for the most competitive appearances in Liga I, with 515 games played over the course of twenty years. Daniel Gabriel Pancu (; born 17 August 1977) is a Romanian former footballer who played mainly as an attacking midfielder or a forward. Club career Pancu began his playing career at FC Politehnica Iași. He made his debut in the Romanian First Division in 1995. In the winter of 1996 he was transferred to Rapid București for the sum of US$200,000. He was, at that time, the most expensive player who has left from Iași. After two and a half seasons, he moved to A.C. Cesena, in the Italian Serie B, for a transfer fee of US$1,200,000. Marius Măldărășanu
Constantin Marius Măldărășanu (born 19 April 1975) is a Romanian football manager and former player, who is currently in charge of Liga I club FC Hermannstadt. Club career Măldărășanu started his career playing for Petrolul Ploieşti in 1996, moving to Rapid București in 1998. Măldărăşanu joined Turkish side Beşiktaş during the 2002 season, only to return in 2003. In January 2008, after a conflict with coach Mircea Rednic, Măldărăşanu was released from his contract. Eastern European Summer Time (EEST) is one of the names of the UTC+03:00 time zone, which is 3 hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time.
