2001–02 Southern Illinois Salukis Men's Basketball Team
The 2001–02 Southern Illinois Salukis men's basketball team represented Southern Illinois University Carbondale during the 2001–02 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Salukis were led by fourth-year head coach Bruce Weber and played their home games at the SIU Arena in Carbondale, Illinois as members of the Missouri Valley Conference. They finished the season 28–8, 14–4 in MVC play to finish tied for first place. They lost in the championship game of the MVC tournament to Creighton, but still received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament as No. 11 seed in the East region. The Salukis upset Texas Tech and Georgia to reach the Sweet Sixteen, but fell to Connecticut in the regional semifinal round. Bruce Weber (basketball)
Bruce Brett Weber (born October 19, 1956) is the former men's basketball head coach at Kansas State University. Prior to his tenure at Kansas State, Weber was the head coach at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, Southern Illinois University and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, University of Illinois. Weber won conference championships and conference coach of the year awards at each of the three schools where he served as head coach. He guided his teams to a combined total of 13 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship, NCAA tournaments in 24 seasons, including an appearance with Illinois in the championship game of the 2005 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament, 2005 NCAA tournament. Northridge, California
Northridge is a neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley region of the City of Los Angeles. The community is home to California State University, Northridge, and the Northridge Fashion Center. Premier America Credit Union Arena, formerly Matador Gymnasium, and formerly known by its nickname the Matadome, is a 2,500 seat, indoor multi-purpose stadium on the campus of California State University, Northridge in Northridge, California. 2001–02 Indiana Hoosiers Men's Basketball Team
The 2001–02 Indiana Hoosiers men's basketball team represented Indiana University. The head coach was Mike Davis, in his second season as head coach (5th overall). The team played its home games in the Assembly Hall in Bloomington, Indiana, and was a member of the Big Ten Conference. The Hoosiers finished the regular season with a 19–10 record, and after losing in the second round of the Big Ten tournament, earned a 5-seed in the 2002 NCAA tournament. What followed was a surprise run to the National Championship game, earning the program its eighth Final Four appearance. The Las Vegas Invitational is an 8 team college basketball tournament held during Thanksgiving of NCAA Division I men's college basketball season annually since 2003. The Tournament was originally held in the gymnasium of Valley High School, until moving to the new Orleans Arena in 2006. The tourney launched with local car dealer Findlay Toyota as its sponsor.
